Under the circumstances you’re never going to see the #mikasa’s engineering spaces or inside the turrets, those are just GONE. And, ah, questionable modern exhibits aside, the historical preservation of what could be preserved IS very good.

All in all the preservation of the #mikasa is as good as can be expected and she’s a very handsome ship with good lines. I just wish I’d had better weather than the last time I visited her in 2017. Would blue skies IN SPRING have been too much to ask for #yokosuka? For just one day?

The model collection is superb. Just remember that these aren’t (officially) aircraft carriers (the collection extends to more modern ships of the JMSDF) #mikasa

It’s not as well restored but the aft superstructure of the #mikasa pretty much duplicates the forward superstructure, including a second armoured conning room. I presume it had a rangefinder as well but that hasn’t been replicated in the conservation efforts yet.

For all that they’re breech-loading shell guns, it’s really not hard to imagine a Nelsonian crew tending to the 3” battery on #mikasa

That’s NOT a criticism of any of the three BTW - #Odawara castle, #warrior, and #mikasa are all brilliant in their own ways (and yes I’ll be visiting Mikasa again later) 3/n

Ok, given the tendency of Japanese castles to burn down frequently, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that the current iteration of #odawara castle is a 1960 restoration. So pretty much like #warrior and #mikasa in terms of “original” content. 2/n
