Mike Oldfield – To France
Mike Oldfield is an English musician who primarily plays the guitar, but he also plays many other instruments. He became famous in the 1970s and 1980s for his unique style of mixing rock, pop, and electronic genres. I listened to him as a kid and teenager, but not so much as an adult. While I still like his music, I think it sounds a bit dated nowadays.
The song “To France,” featuring Maggie Reilly on vocals, was released in 1984. It was a huge success (in France too). I’m sharing it with you today because, as you’re reading this, I’m probably on a plane… to France.

By the way, the song is more about Mary Stuart, the last queen of Scotland, who spent the last 18 years of her life imprisoned and was never able to return to France, where she had hoped to escape (she was partly French), than it is about a trip to France. Of course, the song is also quite metaphorical.
