#NowSpinning the latest addition to my collection, #SomethinElse by #CannonballAdderley.

This new OneStep by #MobileFidelity is pricey & DSD sourced. However, it’s my favourite hard bop album, one of my favourite #jazz albums & performances by #MilesDavis & so I had to add this, cut at 45, to my Blue Note Classic series cut.

I’ve listened to it once through & I’m impressed, but need to listen a few more times before I can compare.

I’m not particularly lucky, but then I stumble across this at a local second hand store, sealed, for £14.99.

& so I’m #NowSpinning #BringingItAllBackHome by #BobDylan courtesy of #MobileFidelity.

This is just one of two missing entries in my #MoFi Dylan collection, & so I’m really happy to have this.

But how does it sound? Compared with a 1st UK stereo, it’s an improvement. Against an early UK mono, it’s less definitive. But what an album.

The jacket is a photo of a young Bob Dylan and woman (his manager’s wife, if I recall correctly) in a vivid red dress. Dylan and the woman are sat in front of a fireplace surrounded by miscellany - magazines, a fallout shelter sign. Dylan is cradling a cat.

Above the picture red and blue text reads, ‘Bob Dylan, Bringing It All Back Home’.Photo of an open gatefold album.

The inside of the gatefold is decorated with a series of black and white photos of a young Bob Dylan in a recording studio.Photo of a record spinning on a turntable.

Another late birthday gift & I’m #NowSpinning the #MobileFidelity reissue of #ThisYearsModel by #ElvisCostello & the Attractions.

This is probably my 2nd favourite of the Costello albums, but contains my favourite song, ‘This Year’s Girl’, which is just glorious.

I’ve compared the #MoFi & it is easily bettered by the 1st UK Porky Prime cut. The MoFi’s too refined, lacks bite & is less cohesive, whereas the 1st UK kicks ass: as it should.

Late birthday gift arrived today & so I’m #NowSpinning #ArmedForces by #ElvisCostello & the Attractions.

This is the repressing by #MobileFidelity & I’m just done comparing it with a UK OG. There are audible differences between the two - the UK is punkier with more punch, but the #MoFi has better definition with hidden detail rising to the surface: the backing vocals & piano coming to the fore. But I’m not sure I prefer one over the other.

Following up from yesterday, I’ve now had chance to listen to #JohnWesleyHarding again, but this time the 45 cut by #MobileFidelity.

As with some of their other reissues, this is a mixed bag. Over all, it’s likely an improvement: #BobDylan’s voice is front, centre, & v. natural. The harmonica is tamed & better handled than both the 1st UK mono & stereo. However, the bass is, on occasion, weirdly extended (it’s wacky on Frankie Lee).

Having taken a long break from his #music (for obvious reasons), I was intrigued & then disappointed by #RyanAdam’s recent output. This then sent me into his back catalogue: a reminder of that incredible run of albums from #Heartbreaker through to #EasyTiger.

I’m #NowPlaying #LoveIsHell, a reissue by #MobileFidelity, the best sounding of his albums on #vinyl & the songwriting is, in places, exceptional, #Halloween, an outtake, being my favourite.

#NowListening to #BlondeOnBlonde by #BobDylan, cut in mono by #RyanKSmith from today’s #VinylMePlease haul.

This is my 2nd listen & my only mono. The #VMP stands up well to my 1st UK stereo press and proves a compelling listen, cohesion, punch, & natural bass.

The #MobileFidelity, cut at 45, has more space, more detail - but it’s a silly comparison. That #MoFi doesn’t sound like any other version I’ve heard. Plus, it’s cut in stereo, at 45, from DSD.

Sticking with #BobDylan for a while longer & #NowPlaying #LoveAndTheft.

This #MobileFidelity reissue sounds sumptuous, particularly at the low end with nimble bass & plenty of thump from that kick drum. Also love the sound of the guitars here: full, lush, & yet very natural.

Having spent time with Fragments over the past month or so, I can say that this version of #Mississippi is the true keeper. But, for me, Po’ Boy is perfect in its simplicity.

Still recuperating from a nasty bout of Covid-19 & #NowListening to #TheFreeWheelinBobDylan by #BobDylan.

This is the stereo 45 by #MobileFidelity & easily beats my first UK stereo for clarity, tone & musicality. These Dylan #MoFis, despite being DSD sourced, are so well done & so enjoyable to listen to. In fact, I wish I’d picked up the mono pressings alongside the stereo - they really are *that* good.

And slight as it may be, I love Corrina, Corrina.

Sat in the spring sunshine watching snow melt & I’m #NowListening to #Nefertiti by #MilesDavis.

This, cut at 45 by #MobileFidelity, is a new addition - & still in stock. This is just a great album, incredible musicianship, melodic, & well recorded. Oh, & it features the incomparable #WayneShorter who sadly passed last week.

The #MoFi cut has whisper silent blacks, dynamics to burn, rich tonality, & all sounds very natural, very realistic.

Beginning of the weekend & #NowListening to #BitchesBrew by #MilesDavis.

It took me quite a while to begin to see the patterns in apparent randomness of this: but it’s grown on me & continues to fascinate.

This is the repress by #MobileFidelity at 33 1/3. I don’t yet have anything to compare this with (I’m awaiting the anniversary edition which, unlike this, is AAA). But as is generally the case with #MoFi Miles, this is dynamic, spacious, & detailed.

The cover is a painted picture of the face of a woman, to the far left of the cover, gazing across a beach as if out to sea. Her skin is dark with pearlescent accents. Her lips are vivid blue.

Beneath her face is a flower, open, vivid pink, seemingly aflame.

In the foreground, a man embraces a woman, both in African tribal dress and looking out across the ocean where it appears a storm - heavy clouds and forked lightening - swells and looms.

A yellow banner, running across the top of the cover, reads - in black typeface - Original Master Recording.

Just watched #MUFC put Leeds United in their place & I’m #NowListening to #FillesDeKilimanjaro by #MilesDavis. I’m only just beginning to get my head around his electric period - & this, along with #ASilentWay - is very much at the shallow end. Naff album title aside, I’m digging it.

This is the #MobileFidelity 45. I don’t have anything with which to compare, but I’ll go so far as to say this is dynamic, airy, with bags of detail.

Another weekend & I’m #NowListening to #OhMercy by #BobDylan.

Listening obsessively to #Fragments, the latest Bootleg Series entry, has led me to the best sounding version of the best sounding Dylan album: the #MobileFidelity reissue at 45. Compared with my UK 1st pressing, the #MoFi wins out: better dynamics, definition, separation, & sound stage.

And then there’s #RingThemBells & #ManInTheLongBlackCoat: wonderful & weird in equal measure.

Sunday afternoon, eschewing the mellow & instead #NowListening to #JackJohnson by #MilesDavis.

When it comes to #jazz, I’m normally a hardbop guy & this is assuredly not that. But I am a guitarist & when #JohnMcLaughlin cuts loose, it’s something else: heavy, discordant, spiky, with Miles anchoring the melody over everything.

This is the #MoFi reissue & sounds properly three dimensional, very natural, with incredible dynamics.

Sunday PM, nothing to do, no place to be, & so I’m #NowListening to #MilesDavis #MyFunnyValentine, another great reissue by #MobileFidelity.

Whilst this isn’t my favourite performance from Miles, I do love the title track & Stella by Starlight.

This is stereo & my only comparator is an early UK mono, which is scuffed up - so it’s apples & oranges really.

The MoFi is unsurprisingly richer, wider soundstage, better separation & with more punch.

In September of last year, audio reviewer and analog evangelist Michael Fremer reviewed Mobile Fidelity’s reissue of Truth, the 1968 debut studio album from Jeff Beck. In his review, Fremer praises the sound, saying, “Mo-Fi knocks it out of the park.” The title of this enthusiastic review? “Mobile Fidelity Tells The Truth.” But as Mr. Fremer now knows, that’s not strictly true.

Saturday morning & #NowListening to a treasured #album, #BloodOnTheTracks by #BobDylan.

The #MobileFidelity #OneStep, cut at 45, shimmers & sparkles with detail & depth, without losing the sense of intimacy which makes this album so special.

When compared with an early UK, the 2007 reissue, & the #MoFi 33, the OneStep wins without reservation. Listening to #IdiotWind right now & the OneStep retains the power without the muddiness of some pressings.

Sticking with the #MilesDavis theme, I’m #NowPlaying #Milestones again for the multiple time this week.

I’m #NowListening to the #MobileFidelity pressing to confirm my recollection. It’s very close between this & the #KevinGray cut (#ColumbiaLegacy). The #MoFi sounds warmer which suits, perhaps, the surging horns of, say, Sid’s Ahead. The Legacy, however, wins out in nimbleness & pace as, for example, on Straight, No Chaser.

Both sound very, very good.

Morning, the rain has broken, hot coffee to hand & #NowPlaying #SketchesOfSpain for the second time in a row. I love #MilesDavis with #GilEvans. Between this and #PorgyandBess, this wins out. #Saeta is quite unlike anything else I can bring to mind - that soulful horn, with the weird drone deep in the background then breaking into a march… Evocative stuff.

This is the #MobileFidelity 33, the best version I’ve heard by a country mile.
