These are snails on a palm seedling. Camouflage not their strong point obviously.

Lots of tiny white-shelled snails are clinging tight to the spears of a fan type palm. There are probably around a hundred. Their lack of colour obviously helps to some of the intense heating effect of the sun. Do the leaves themselves help with the cooling process? And why don't they crawl into the shade?
