Despite the red bricks, this church with the roof turret reminds me of #Herrnhut, #Kleinwelka and the other #Moravian places in Germany.

Der Grabstein der kurz nach der Geburt verstorbenen Söhne von #Miertsching, den wir 2018 in Elim (Südafrika) auf dem Gottesacker freigelegt hatten, ist jetzt auch im Internet zu sehen.

Is it possible that the Christmas tree tradition started even earlier, in #Labrador (#Nunatsiavut ) with the #Moravian Mission Station in #Nain, founded already 1771 – a full ten years before the claim by the town of Sorel, Quebec ? The Moravian archival records, as they mostly are in German language, have not yet been fully explored in this respect.

Im September vor 174 Jahren besuchte der Oberlausitzer Sorbe Johann August #Miertsching die #Herrnhuter Missionsstation Hebron, (#Nunatsiavut/Labrador), bevor er in die Heimat zurückkehrte. Nur kurze Zeit später fuhr er als Inuktitut-Übersetzer auf #HMSInvestigator, um an der Suche nach der verschwundenen #FranklinExpedition teilzunehmen.

Die Herrnhuter Missionsstation Hebron im arktischen Labrador wurde zwar 1959 aufgegeben, das Gebäude blieb jedoch erhalten und wird von den Inuit schrittweise restauriert.

Für Leute in #Berlin - eine seltene Chance! Am Sonntag, dem 1. Oktober 14:00 Uhr, führt Stefan Butt wieder historisch Interessierte über den normalerweise verschlossenen (!) #Gottesacker der #Herrnhuter #Brüdergemeine im Böhmischen Dorf Berlin-#Neukölln.

Een mooi voorbeeld van hoe je de wereld wat mooier kunt maken.

Agnes Kasparkova maakte van haar dorpje in de Tsjechische Republiek een soort van kunstgalerie. Met een kleine kwast en blauwe verf maakte ze van de witte eenvoudige panden prachtige kunstwerkjes. Ze heeft dit gedaan tot haar 94e. Ze is in 2022 overleden.

There is a mostly unknown connection between British maritime history in 19th century (#franklinexpedition etc.) and Germany - in person of Johann August #Miertsching, Inuktitut interpreter for the Royal Navy 1850-54. Prior to this, he served a #Moravian missionary and teacher in #Labrador (=#Nunatsiavut, in today's Canada), then a British colony.
