Saturday
A chance of showers before 2pm, then a chance of showers and
thunderstorms between 2pm and 5pm, then showers likely and possibly a
thunderstorm after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Calm wind
becoming north around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is
60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except
higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Saturday Night
Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then a chance of
showers and thunderstorms between 8pm and 11pm, then a chance of
showers after 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 67. East wind around 5 mph
becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Another radar image showing the western half of Virginia and North Carolina this one has the bulk of the storms that will be in DC on Saturday. Radar images can be really pretty and colorful greens and blues indicate general rainfall usually light showers and then in the storms you get centers of yellow turning into orange and then red as the rain gets heavier and heavier… then you get pinks and white pixels where hail and VERY heavy rainfall happens! It’s so fun to watch sometimes!

This map also shows general air moisture content (basically clouds and clouds with lots of rain!) by using temperature as a guide. The background is generally a navy to midnight blue, the thin clouds are light blues to greens the thick clouds are yellows and reds. You can “guess” at where the rain clouds are, but you get a better picture when comparing this map to the radar maps of the region you want to look at.
