Been catching up on all the work I've missed out on. The thing is though, catching up on work is so much better when nestled amid trees older than I am.

The cup of "beaten coffee" is a nice bonus what with the chill in the air in spite of the sun.

Photo shows a speckled blue ceramic cup with white daisies on it, being held up by a hand.

There is steaming hot coffee in the cup.

A patio framing greenery and a mountain range are visible, out of focus, beyond the cup.

My door cam captured an "unknown person or animal" at 8 this evening.

Doorcam? The word you were looking for is 'bear'. You saw a BEAR. Probably the same bear that damaged that garage door last night.

🐾✨ Meet our newest porch patrol recruit! ✨🐾

We’ve officially adopted this super cute wooden garden dog. Hand-carved, weather-worn, and full of Appalachian soul. 🏡🌲

This pup was at the house two doors down. We had a contract on that house but backed out after a really bad home inspection report. Then that home went up for auction but didn't meet the reserve. So, the owner is now going to rent it out. I have admired this pup for two years and wanted to give it a good home. So, yesterday, when the owner pulled up, we made him an offer and adopted him. Cash always works. 😁

This pup is now standing proudly by the bungalow with his tongue out and tail (imaginary) wagging, he’s ready to guard the yard, greet guests, and pose for every season’s photo op. The Yorkies have already put him in training for Porch Patrol.

🎃💐 Right now, he’s rocking a fall vibe with bright orange mums in happy pumpkin buckets from Home Depot but don’t be surprised when he’s decked out for Christmas, spring blooms, or mountain summer porch parties! I wonder if he likes #moonshine ?🤔

Welcome to the family, big wooden buddy. Now, we gotta name him. Any ideas??? 🐕❤️

A large wooden sculpture of a dog sits in a yard beside a white house. The dog is carved in a chunky, rustic style with big floppy ears, a short muzzle, and a happy pink tongue sticking out. Its wood is weathered and painted white, though the base is cracked and rough from age. On each side of the dog are bright orange potted mums set in pumpkin-shaped planters with carved jack-o’-lantern faces, giving a cheerful autumn feel. Behind the scene are some bushes, a gravel driveway, and a green lawn with trees and a few scattered houses in the distance.

✨ After decades, this Appalachian mountain bungalow has a brand new tin roof which is a true classic in these hills. 🌄✨ Tin roofs have long been part of Appalachian mountain life. I have fond memories of sleeping under them at many of my ancestor's and relative's homes. They hold strong through summer storms, echo the music of rain on quiet nights (a nostalgic experience), and help a home breathe through seasons of heat and cold.

The cupola and fireplace (covered in concrete!) were removed. So much wood underneath the old shingle roof had to be replaced due to rot. Dozens of workers over 10 days to fix, repair, build, and install this tin roof. The noises were incredibly *loud*. Footsteps over my head started prior to dawn every morning. We had the kindest and most talented people help add to the history of this home.

This deep navy roof, a nod to my husband's and FIL's #USMC service, isn’t just pretty, it was required due to multiple leaks. It’s protection for another century of family stories, porch sitting, and Appalachian memories yet to be made. Here’s to keeping this little piece of mountain history standing tall for the next 105 years. 🏡💙

This image shows a charming single story bungalow with a brand new navy blue metal roof, a style often seen in the Appalachian Mountains. The house is painted white with a long, screened-in front porch and warm light glowing from the windows inside. Two flags hang from the porch: USMC and American flag. Potted flowers in whiskey barrels and shrubs decorate the front yard. A sign near the sidewalk advertises the roofing company. Large leafy trees frame the house, and the evening sky is softly tinted pink behind them. The scene feels cozy and welcoming, with the new roof gleaming above a well loved, historic mountain home.

🪵✨ In Georgia, everybody knows what “Love Shack” means because of the song, but, oh, it's more than just a song, it’s a whole mood. Around here, it’s about porch sittin’, #moonshine sipping, heart-to-hearts, and turning a place into somewhere that love feels at home.

This 105 year old #Appalachian mountain bungalow is slowly becoming our Love Shack. I think it's time to start focusing on the future and make our family's stamp on the place. History still lives here under the roof but so does our own dreams and serenity. From uneven floors to comfy sofas to a place filled with #Yorkies, laughter, and family. Every corner is being filled with our stories.

BTW, you are welcome for the #earworm. May the song sit with you all day long. Get up and dance because life is short. 💛

A rustic wooden armchair with wide, flat arms sits on a gray-painted porch floor. The seat cushion is black and worn smooth with age. Resting across the chair’s back is a colorful patchwork pillow stitched with bold letters that read “LOVE SHACK.” The pillow has red fringe trim and bright fabric squares in pink, orange, teal, mustard, and white. The chair is placed against light-colored porch walls with screened windows looking out toward a gravel driveway and greenery.

✨ From old to roots to 'roads✨

This old wardrobe has found its new home in my Appalachian office. Once part of a matched suite in someone’s bedroom nearly a century ago, now it will hold #genealogy #books and decades of my research of my Appalachian family and history. It is ready to take it's place and store my little treasures of Ancestry Roads.

With its cabriole legs, deep wood tones, and quiet history, it feels right at home here in the mountain but I am convinced this was built in the Midwest. I bought it over a decade ago during an auction of from Detroit. It used to store my sons Skylanders and video games.

I think the Queen Anne legs and veneered front panels place this in the Depression era to post-war period.

A vintage wooden wardrobe stands on small casters. The front has two paneled doors with a brass knob in the center. Inside, one side holds four drawers and a shelf above them, while the other side is open for hanging clothes. The wood shows its age with scratches and marks, but the overall piece has a warm, rich brown tone. The wardrobe is shown with both doors open. On the left side are four stacked wooden drawers with simple carved handles, and a shallow shelf above them. On the right side is an open vertical space with a wooden hanging rod for clothes. The wood is medium brown with a glossy finish, and the interior shows some scuffs and wear from age and use.

I really enjoy this shot of three skiers carving distinct turns, capturing both motion and minimalism.

A wide-angle photo of three skiers turning down an open ski slope at Snoqualmie Pass. The snow is smooth and bright, with subtle tracks marking their carved paths. Two skiers wear bright jackets—one red, one orange—while the third is dressed in black. Their spacing and arcs create a pleasing sense of rhythm against the expansive white background, capturing both motion and minimalism.
