At the Red Fort in Delhi, also called the Qila-i-Mubarak.

In this image, you see the graceful curves at the Deewan-e-Khaas, or the Hall for meetings with senior officials. Set by the Yamuna.

The ceilings are much higher than any of you will realize.

I haven't been editing images in the last few weeks, which is a shame. Nor have I been sending my newsletter - double shame. I will start editing this week. However, I will share a few images of the Red Fort in Delhi, also called the Qila-i-Mubarak.

In this Substack post, I reflect on Akbar the Great. His son buried him at Sikandra, Agra, but his remains are no longer there.

Did I post this before? This post is about an old trip to Fatehpur Sikri, Emperor Akbar's capital for 15 years.

More than the episode itself, I sense the patriarchal mindset of the painter.

The depiction of Hem Chandra Vikramaditya being crushed under Akbar's elephant is troubling. The real issue? Hemu's women are portrayed as timid, feeble, and weak, at just 30-40% of a man's size. This artwork reflects a disturbing mindset from both the painter and their patron.
