My spouse, Kat, has worsening Multiple Sclerosis, is no longer able to work, and has applied for disability, but has already been denied once. We urgently need help staying afloat financially while we fight for their SSDI.

Please boost to help share our fundraiser. If you are able to give, it is greatly appreciated.

The apple health documentation doesn’t say how this metric is calculated. But it would be good to know just how much it should worry me.

According to my Oura, I reached 280% of my exercise goal yesterday. In unrelated news, my legs are spasming like bastards today.

Whilst waiting my turn for video analysis in the rowing gym on Friday, I spent a bit of time on a watt bike. It was one of those ones that showed how much power you put through each pedal. I know my left side is weaker than my right, and the muscle is visibly smaller now…. But I didn’t much enjoy the quantification that the output is 35% : 65%. Dispiriting.

Still, yesterday I managed 7200m or so in a 30 min aerobic threshold test, so I’m holding up OK.

Near year, new #introduction.

I’m Christie. I’m queer and live with my wife of several years in Portland, OR, USA. We have an older English bulldog named Bertie and a younger grey and white piebald tabby cat named Ursa Minor.

My day job is in #InfrastructureEngineering with a big tech company. I’m the technical lead for a team that provides a virtual compute platform globally for our business unit. I’m really good at it, in terms of people, tech, and process. Lately I've studying #NetworkEngineering. I've got this idea to set up little roaming free e-libraries, to help maintain access to knowledge and culture as society continues to break down. I run our family's websites, homelab, and NAS. We're working to migrate off as many hosted services as possible and bring them in-house. I guess you could say we're into the #IndieWeb and things like POSSE.

I used to be quite heavily involved in open source and tech community organizing. Less so now, mostly because maintaining my health takes a lot of energy. I once worked for Mozilla, a lifetime ago, and you might have heard of a thing called Open Source Bridge.

I have both #MultipleSclerosis and #SjögrensSyndrome and treatment for that involves significant immune suppresion. This means we still mask in public and indoors when with others not in our bubble.

In 2025, we bought an #AdventureVan. Her name is Stargazer and she's the best accessibility tool I've acquired to date. We try to take her out as much as possible to explore and enjoy nature while I'm most able to. While out and about you'll find me #birding, #hiking, and capturing other aspects of our natural world as I'm an avid amateur #photographer.

As time allows, I make art not just with #NaturePhotography, but also #watercolor and pen/ink. I love tabletop games but it's so hard to find time to play them these days. TV brings me a lot of comfort and I’m a big fan of rewatches. Podcasts about TV? Mmm yeah. Tasty. I somehow also read a fair amount, split between audio and print books.

I’m interested in mutual aid and community defense. I’d like to figure out how to be in community in ways that work with my disabilities.

Up for #parkrun this morning. Running is something of a struggle now, but I dragged my way round and then sat with a flask of coffee waiting for the last finisher. I’m run director on Saturday, so picked up the kit and then headed home for a shower, then lit a fire and had a nap. A good 2026 so far!

Good news, I suppose. This has the potential to help lots of people through diagnosis and beyond, perhaps to more effective treatment. For me, 20 years in with secondary-progressive MS and no treatment options…. Somewhat less so.

I took my Nordic poles when we went for a walk earlier. It was only a couple of km, but the poles really help me walk in a straight line and not to favour my strong side over my weaker. I was also rewarded by a lovely beam of a smile from a lady walking with a single pole. Game recognising game, I think.
