Julia Nunes is doing a Kickstarter for her upcoming album, Julia Nunes is perfect. You can watch her announcement video. She's done three other successful Kickstarters.

I first discovered Julia Nunes through her ukelele (and melodica) covers of classic hits. I've kept up with her work over the years, especially as she moved into creating more and more original work. Life Is Long is one of my favorite songs of all time. She's released one song from the album. It's called "Your favorite" and you can listen to it on at least some of the music streaming services.

(I'm hesitant to apply a label to Julia but I know that many of her partners have been women.)

The thumbnail from Julia Nunes' kickstarter announcement video for Julia Nunes is perfect. The image features two images of Julia's face. Both images have her eyes closed. The background image shows heer facing away from the camera holding what appears to be a microphone. The image above that is in place of the microphone and is a close up shot where she has her eyes closed. The text on the image says 'this song is out' and including the text 'that's not a real question' which is a lyric from 'Your favorite'.

I really like the new album "Tracks and Tunes" of

It has been a while, as choosing and writing these takes some time, but it's finally time for another #MusicMonday! While also melodic, acid techno, this week's recommendation is darker and harder than the very dreamy 747 I wrote about last time: The EP Oblivion by Italian duo Boston 168. While there is some variation among the tracks, they all evoke a dark, intense, driving, cyberpunky athmosphere and make me think of desolated warehouses, sexy agents, rainy nights, neon lights. Sounds a bit like #shadowrun, I know.

Yeah, DJ Kozes fantastisch niveauvolles #Pop Album "Music can hear us" ist zwar leider nicht von 0 auf 1 aber immerhin von 0 auf 4 in den Deutschen Albumcharts eingestiegen. \o/

Sowas geht!!

You might have noticed that my last #MusicRecommendation on #MusicMonday has marked a shift towards electronic music, and this is where we will stay for now. Today's tip is the release Aurora Centralis by Canadian artist 747. A recommendation by my friend John, this minimal, reduced, but melodic and incredibly emotional and touching music has been a revelation, and seeing 747 play live has been an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend giving this release a try, even if you usually don't listen to techno or other kinds of electronic music.

One of my all time favorite albums is Kezia by Protest the Hero, specially the track "Blindfolds Aside". The chorus at the end, when the guard grows a concience and gets torn between his duty and morals, gets me every time. It's such a strong piece

It's time for another #MusicMonday, and this time we are changing genre a bit — even if the music remains atmospheric and dreamy. This week I would like to recommend Carbon Based Lifeforms, in particular their 2006 album World of Sleepers. Carbon Based Lifeforms create meticulously thought-through electronic music, which probably fits best under the label psychedelic ambient if we need to find a label for it. I like how this music is not soulless or straight boring as a lot of ambient can be, but at the same time not too intense to be in the background. It is like a painting that fits well enough in the room to not immediately draw intention, but at the same time is interesting and touching when you look at it.
I like several of their albums, but I think World of Sleepers is a great place to start to explore Carbon Based Lifeforms. I also think it is one of their more beat-forward releases, which I personally like. Also, I am a sucker for the cover art.

I know, I know, I am late for #MusicMonday, but I didn't manage to write a post yesterday and don't want to wait until next week. Maybe it's still Monday somewhere?

Anyhow, today's tip picks up where we left last week. It didn't take long from discovering the whole rabbit hole that is post-metal and it's adjacent genre by my amazing experience of seeing Long Distance Calling live until I stumbled upon Russian Circles. And, you know, sometimes something just fits, feels like it was made perfectly for you, scratching all your itches, hugging you in all the right places. A lot of Russian Circles' music feels like that to me. And if I was able to only bring one album with me (to a lone island or the afterlife or whatever), it would be their second longplayer "Station". It is music that makes me dream and focus at the same time, that dampens all the noise around me and creates that clarity of mind. Music, that feels like it is able go condense all of reality, in its brutality and beauty, its fragility and force, in its depth and diversity.

It took nearly ten years until I was able to see them play live, but it was worth the wait. The concert was a transformative experience when it comes to live music, and I have seen them two more times since. If it's possible they manage to intensify the experience of their music even more, and the way how lightning, dynamics, composition, setlist, just everything is coordinated to support this is amazing. Those of you who know me would probably not describe me as a spiritual person, but attending a Russian Circles' concert live was probably as close as I'll ever get to a spiritual experience. If you remotely enjoy their music on record and have the chance to them play live, don't hesitate.
