A white mute swan floats calmly on dark, still water, its long neck curved gracefully and wings slightly raised. The bird’s orange bill and black facial markings stand out against the deep black background, creating a striking, minimalist contrast.

Ursprünglich kam der Höckerschwan im nördlichen Mitteleuropa, im Baltikum und im Bereich des Schwarzen Meeres vor. Die Populationen in Westeuropa stammen von Park- und Ziervögeln, die ab dem 16. Jahrhundert gehalten wurden. Seinen Namen verdankt der Höckerschwan seinem großen schwarzen Stirnhöcker oberhalb des Schnabels.
