A pic of purple coneflower. Mowed the lawn again today, this would be the second time this season. Shooting for about once a month. Most annoying part of it is wrangling the extension cords, but that's what you have to do with an electric mower.
These flowers are right up against the house, southern exposure.

Tight shot looking down on two tall blooms of purple coneflower. They look like fuzzy dark orange pom-poms surrounded by narrow deep pink petals. They are close to camera, and below are stems and leaves and two more shorter flowerheads, one is still all green, hasn't opened up yet.

June 20, 2025. The pollinators love the beardtongue blossoms. They are flying from blossom to blossom this afternoon. This could be a calico beardtongue. Several varieties are blooming at once. Also, more varieties of pollinators are out in the habitat. #nativeplants, #minnesota, #pollinators.

Several pink blossoms are opening to to the left. The black pollinator is captured at the entry to a blossom.

There are long pointed leaves and stems visible in the background. Sitting on the flowers is a small black and orange (Chauliognathus marginatus) beetle.

@EdwinG We're also making strides to ensure that bioswales and other city managed properties are prioritizing #NativePlants - #SomervilleMA, abutting northwest of the #Boston neighborhood #CharlestownMA passed a first-of-its-kind Native Plants ordinance back in 2021.

(Je suis désolé, mon français n'est pas assez bon pour traduire ça 🙃 )

For folks in southeast Michigan interested in native plants:

There's a native plant sale with Michiganense Natives at the Belle Isle Nature Center on Sunday, June 22, 2025 from noon to 4pm.

A portion of the sales will benefit our Wild Ones Wayne County chapter and support our efforts to provide native plant resources and programming for our communities.

The plants I brought home last night are Pale Purple Coneflower, Foxglove Beardtongue, Illinois Bundleflower, and White Prarie Clover.

I am going to try to get them in the ground tonight. I have two of each so I need to dig 8 small holes. I'm trying to figure out where to place them. I think toward the back of the bed, since they should be fairly tall (eventually).

It’s #FruitsFriday! The Black Raspberries are starting to ripen!
I really like their unique razzy flavor.

This is a native plant (Rubus occidentalis), and my backyard patch was planted the natural way — by birds who had eaten the fruits elsewhere.

Two clusters of bumpy little berries seen against light-green, three-part leaves. Most of the berries are bright red (not ripe), but one berry is a shiny black. A ripe one!

I got some native plants! They are teeny, but they have been living outside so I'm hopeful they will take hold and do well when I get them in the ground.

If by some chance anyone in Kansas or a neighboring state sees this, here is the website. She's doing this as a side gig for now, so she's working by appointment.

It was fun to talk to her about my space and what might work there. I am hopeful I got some good fits for the light and soil I have. I cannot remember now what I got aside from purple coneflower. I think some kind of digitalis? And a couple of other things. But we talked about a lot of options and she seemed like she really knew what she was talking about.
