That's exactly what I was looking for - tho I've to also find the #WindowsXP drivers since #WindowsVista really feels garbage on these machines...

• Sadly the #PPA for the #Pulsbo / #GMA500 driver on #UbuntuLTS 12.04 went down and I've yet to source that #binaryblob and Kernel Module loader & build script as this provided #OpenGL ES hardware acceleration, and neither #Intel nor #PowerVR / #ImaginationTechnologies were willing to release it, despite it existing (there even was a #DellMini with #Ubuntu 8.04 sold with it!)...

Either way, I think that both the #EeePC701 and #Vaio #P11Z would greatly benefit from being rereleased with a new, #IntelAtom / #CeleronJ / #N100-based Mainboard and other updated components that make then quieter, more power saving and way faster...

• Some Chinese #HardwareHackers going by the group alias #NB51 did make their own custom #Mainboard for the #ThinkPad #X230 but those were super rare and expensive if even available...

If I had the money I would've likely completed the #NUCbook and just go with a chonky machine...

Several Reasons:

1. They are getting harder and harder to come by, espechally my #X230Tablet.

2. As they become more and more of a collectors' item, they become more and more sought after and more expensive (I have a #Vaio #P11Z that I used before that so I know this won't be a road I want to go down)...

3. I've already maxed out it's current capabilities (minus adding a #BDXL burner, sacrificing WWAN for a 2nd [mSATA -] SSD and shoving in the biggest 2,5" SSD on the market) and the bottleneck is the i5-3320M (or any said generation Intel CPU) soldered to the mainboard.

I know some chinese modders aka. #nb51 released a custom drop-in mainboard but that used an i5-8550U but not only is that also quite old but I've not found any listing for it on any shopping site back then and even then it would've been economically unfeasible.

1. I need new batteries but the original have #DRM amd #Lenovo doesn't make any new ones.

2. A 1080p screen would be nice given it's 768p pen+touch screen didn't age well but that mod doesn't work for the #X230t and has a shitton of issues as I know from @fuchsiii 's #Lenuwu #UltimateX230...

Sadly all the machines on the market, even the @frameworkcomputer feel like a substantial #Downgrade in that department and demanding too many compromises in non-negotiable departments...

Like #ToolfreeSwappableBatteries or a 9,5mm Ultra Slimline ODD bay being missing...

@laptopretrospective @emma @frameworkcomputer Yeah, I'll keep it but I do really reach the limits of it's hardware and whilst stuff like #NB51's aftermarket mainboard is admirable, it doesn't make sense to buy some 8th gen i5 today as it only provides me with maybe a year or two of wiggle room...
