Check this out—some pictures of the Crackle Synth reboot that I worked on with Sybren Dans, Peter Edwards, and Kristina Andersen back in 2015. It was also mentioned during a keynote at NIME 2024.#cracklesynth #nime2024 #design #reboot #STEIM #prototype #electronics #musicalinstrument #synth

Last week, I went to Utrecht for the NIME conference, where I had the opportunity to present some of my research. But most importantly, I reunited with many dear friends from my @steim_amsterdam days (and made new ones!). I also got to see instruments I designed in the past, which are still in great shape @antioddo @albertoboem. It's been really great #nime #nime2024 #utrecht #netherlands #digitalmusicalinstrument #design #friends #steim #uidesign #research #unipd #cscpadova #deiunipd

On my way back to Iceland from I had such a great time, lots of inspiring performances and presentations and very nice to meet many old and new friends in person. It was sooo much fun to perform with the on stage at TivoliVredenburg together with seven other musicians.

A group of eight musicians is performing on stage in a concert hall, featuring various instruments and electronic equipment. The setting includes wooden walls and a semi-circular seating arrangement, with some audience members visible. The musicians appear focused on their performance.

On my way back to Cologne from Utrecht, a week of #nime2024, so much (too much?) interesting input to digest, papers to read. I had such a great week, with a lot of insightful discussions with fellow artists, designers, musicians, engineers. Loved the keynotes, enjoyed great concerts, this week was a blast!
In addition, discovering Utrecht by #bike was so nice, riding along beautiful channels, experiencing all the great cycling infrastructure, for the first time i saw a pop-up guarded bike parking, not to speak of the bike parking information system, displaying the free parking slots in the numerous bike parking facilities.

a funny/interesting side note to the Period Instrument project I'm presenting at #nime2024 tomorrow, if you do an image search for "menstrual musical instrument" you get lots of pictures of lutes and horns, because i guess it converts the search to "period instrument".

it's a nice illustration of the political ecology of technology, I think...and provided a nice title for our project

I’m at NIME (new interfaces for musical expression conference) in Utrecht this week, presenting my work with Nadia Campo Woytuk on The Period Instrument, a menstrual musical interface. Presentation on Friday morning. The paper is not yet publicly available but let me know if you’d like to see it! #nime2024

Excited about being the opener, tonight at kikker. Had a great day with the sounds like touch performance coaching session. Quote of the day from one participant: «i felt like being into the vortex of a living clock».

Got my performance "Songs from my Analogue Utopia" accepted at NIME2024. Super happy about playing in Utrecht in September. I like it a lot that there are academic venues that feature performances and artworks and that organize the peer review process around it. It feels rewarding to receive the feedback and I especially appreciated that reviewers understood that while the performance is not new, it is constantly evolving and that this continuous change is of interest to the NIME community. I was especially flattered by reading that a reviewer considered my setup as "a potentially queer/inclusive feminist self-made musical instrument".
For the conference, I had to provide a video, so here is after many years a new official video of songs from my analogue utopia:

In September, I'll present my research at #NIME2024 (I'm not going to hide that it is a big deal for me). For this, I'm using #inkscape to make some graphics aimed at presenting some sustainable design strategies that I developed in team with other brilliant researchers #conference #research #presentation #graphicdesign #inkscape #opensourceCAD #FLOSS #vectorgraphics
