FYI the TikTok app for Android TV will discontinue 6/15
I’m trying to play a 4K HDR video on my Nvidia Shield. The colour was washed out so I exited and played again. Nope, still washed out. So I switched to the Roku and it wouldn’t play the closed captions no matter what settings I had on the Roku and Plex apps. So I switched back to the Shield and it’s now working fine after some inexcusable initial stuttering. Streaming boxes are a mess. I would be embarrassed to be associated as a programmer for either product.

Since the power failure during Tuesday night’s storm I’ve had trouble with the Nvidia Shield. Even though it was on a UPS it seems to have damaged itself. It powers on but the video is black. When it powers on it switches the receiver to the wrong input. When I switch the input back, the Shield powers down. Rebooting (using remote button presses by memory) and unplugging the power doesn’t fix it. Did it brick itself?
What are your favorite Android TV apps for the shield?

Mine to primære enheder til at afspille film er en Nvidia shieldTV boks til og en AppleTV boks. Shield'en er bedst til lyden og AppleTV boksen er bedst til at billedet.
Jeg er simpelthen ikke i stand til at vurdere hvad der er vigtigst for mig!

The 2015 Nvidia shield is still too good of a box to just toss. I replaced it with the Google TV Streamer mainly so I could get Dolby Vision and Nvidia has been dragging on a shield refresh.
The shield makes a very good Jellyfin/Emby/Plex server especially with an external drive. Enabling samba file sharing on it allows for easy media loading from my collection of blu rays. It is a very good media server device. That is its primary job now.

Denne #hjemmebio nørd er irriteret. Der findes faktisk ikke en god løsning til at se film hjemme:
Hvis man går bare lidt op i privat liv kan man ikke bruge smarttv for de tager screenshots af skærmen flere gange i sekundet og sender dem hjem, så man kan ikke forbinde sit smart tv til internettet.
Så er der Selvfølgelig appleTV det er rigtig godt. Men apple har fucket lydsystemet op og konverterer alting til PCM. Men når man konverterer AC3 og Eac3 til pcm bliver lyden lavere og mindre dynamisk. Det er forskelligt fra film til film hvor slemt det er men nogle film f.eks. Skyfall, john wick 2 og Alien Romulous er helt ødelagte.

It is only a dream. The Nvidia Shield/emby + AppleTV solution i have right now works quite well, and the money will probably be better spent by saving towards a better TV.

Nun ist es mal wieder soweit. Ein neuer muss her. Die größte Anforderung ist meiner Ansicht nach ein langer Support der bereitgestellten Apps. Sind da noch so große Unterschiede was die Bildqualität angeht? 🤷♂️
An sich würde mir auch nur ein dummer #fernseher mit einem Streaminggerät wie Zb. #nvidiashield genügen.
