We all remember that in 2018, Hannah Gadsby released the comedy special #Nanette, which ended comedy. There was no comedy after that. None. Nada. Zilch.

(To clarify, there was legitimate talk that what they did with that special ended comedy as we know it. Which was weird. Good, in the sense of acknowledging the impact, but mostly weird.)

Best feminist #StandUp special I've seen since #Nanette, was Jacqueline Novak's #GetOnYourKnees. She's a genius, the way she playfully yet surgically flays open everything we were raised up to believe about gendered sex & bodies.
If you grew up as a straight or straight-passing girl in the 70s, 80s, 90s, chances are you will feel incredibly seen. Also, have I mentioned that she is a genius?

A few months ago my wife and I watched the Hannah Gadsby comedy special "Nanette". In it, there is a bit about Pride and parades and parties and all that.
Gadsby says: "Where are the quiet gays supposed to go? The pressure on my people to express our identity and pride through the metaphor of party is very intense. Don't get me wrong. I love the spectacle. I really do but I've never felt compelled to get amongst it. Do you know? I'm a quiet soul. My favorite sound in the whole world is the sound of a teacup finding its place... on a saucer."
No particular reason to mention that, except that this is the view in front of me right now.
just finished reading "10 steps to nanette" and rewatched #nanette. it's still so brilliant. even better, knowing how the show was designed and having some more context. it's amazing that an autistic queer voice cut through the crap. can't wait for the new special (may 9.)
