#NeedleExchange

New #WhiteHouse edict targets jurisdictions that are perceived to not be removiving "Endemic #vagrancy" and "drug users" with punitive measures. Specifically mentioned are threats to cut federal funding to cities that do not stop allowing so-called “harm reduction” or “safe consumption” sites for addictive drug users.

Specifically, the White House order:

Discourages funding for harm
reduction: The order explicitly
states that Substance Abuse and
Mental Health Services
Administration (SAMHSA) grants
should not fund interventions like
syringe service programs, claiming
they "only facilitate illegal drug use
and its attendant harm".

e Challenges harm reduction
services: It directs the Attorney
General to review federal funding
recipients who operate drug
injection sites or "knowingly
distribute drug paraphernalia,”
including needles and syringes, and
to potentially bring civil or criminal
actions against them.

e Prioritizes punitive approaches:
The order redirects funding
towards states and municipalities
that enforce prohibitions on open
drug use and urban camping,Chart Showing Stats Of Increased Homelessness in San Bernardino County.

This is BRILLIANT. 🤩

“The problem … around the globe … isn’t that there are not enough drugs, but not enough medics to administer them

… The new syringe … is single use & can be used for any injectable medicine [AND] he has designed a revolutionary new way of preloading them w the medication required, so that they can be more effectively mass produced.”

@SrRochardBunson
If they don’t mind (big if I know) radical mixes of anarchism and Catholicism (!?) the on the Hilltop is nice

I lived there for 10 years from 1991 to 2002 and we did lots of work welcoming homeless people into our house, Latin American solidarity, community gardening, supporting the local , AIDS hospice, LGBTQ, and labour and human-rights organizing

They’re friendly and not pushy (I’m a casual atheist)

@broadwaybabyto
The in Washington used to hand out lapel pins made of syringes 💉 (with the sharps removed)

Which were considered illegal “drug paraphernalia” in the midst of the worst of the HIV crisis

I wore one constantly for years next to a button a local churchy group made that raised a ruckus that said “The body of Christ has AIDS”

Good trouble in hard times

I do like the idea of “FREEDOM” masks 😷

#Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen vetoes free #needleexchange program bill aimed at helping with #addiction

The bill, which passed through the legislature last week, would allow local governments, like city councils, to authorities public or behavioral health programs to provide sterile needles and a place to safely get rid of used syringes.

Not sure why my 3 year old has a toy, mobile, needle-exchange van, but as an advocate for harm reduction and medication assisted treatment, I’ll allow it. Haha!
