I have scrubbed my house from top to bottom today...
In the lower right corner of the image, is a herring gull with a bit of moss or other nest material in its beak.#birds #birdsofmastodon #HerringGulls #nestbuilding
We've had a nesting pair of herring gulls at work for at least the last two years. This year they moved their nest to below the window insist near. I get to watch them build the nest every day now. The first three are from the 15th and the last is from the 17th. #boston #birds #birdsofmastodon #HerringGulls #nestbuilding

Everything’s a big job when you’re small.
This #goldcest took a while to dismantle a #spiderweb for use as #nest material.

The builders are in next door.
A Starling with a ~3ft length of vine or grass (or about 8-9 times the length of it’s body) on the road about to take off up to the roof next door where each year they build a nest.
One of many lengths gathered this morning.
Nest building. This wren has been building a fine house in the backyard #Aberdeenshire #Scotland #NestBuilding
The demolition crew is on a worm break. So far no one has been able to salvage the string, although everyone tries. It must be really woven into the superstructure. They may have to call in a specialist.
Here's the old nest demolition crew. A pair of house finches salvaging material for a new nest. I'm really fascinated by this.
A few days ago, I picked up an abandoned birds' nest that had been left on the lawn last fall (there's a picture in my feed). I put it on the balcony to dry out, since it had been under the snow all winter. It was still remarkably intact.
This morning, my husband noticed that the balcony had half a dozen house finches who were pulling pieces from the old nest to use (presumably) in their own new ones. I think that's so cool!
Your Fault ❗
If you leave a cushion outside, I shred it and build a nest. 😀
You would have blamed the squirrels but unfortunately you caught me in the act.
