This story fascinates me. He puts a blanket over his shoulders and gets shot because friendlies mistook him for a Dakota Native. The subtext here is that Natives in blankets were being shot at without much thought. At least that's how I read it.

It’s a #lostbones #FossilFriday! 🐂🦥🐴🐘🐪🐟🍃 This beautiful bison skull is housed at the Brown County Historical Society in New Ulm, #Minnesota. It was found in Lake Hanska, possibly during dredging.
The society's exhibits cover various topics related to the county, including its geological formation, Native American culture, early settlement, ethnic makeup, and early industry.

It was found in 1987 in a gravel pit within the city limits. New Ulm borders the western bank of the glacial River Warren’s river valley, which now contains the Minnesota River.

It’s a #lostbones #FossilFriday! 🐂🦥🐴🐘🐪🐟🍃 Newly discovered. Just out of the #Minnesota River and still drying out. This specimen was recently donated to the New Ulm Riverside History & Nature Learning Center.
It was discovered face down with just the backside of one horn exposed according to the Nature Center's curator. It measures 66cm (26") across the horn cores.
