This story fascinates me. He puts a blanket over his shoulders and gets shot because friendlies mistook him for a Dakota Native. The subtext here is that Natives in blankets were being shot at without much thought. At least that's how I read it.

The society's exhibits cover various topics related to the county, including its geological formation, Native American culture, early settlement, ethnic makeup, and early industry.

#lostbones for #FossilFriday! πŸ‚πŸ¦₯🐴🐘πŸͺπŸŸπŸƒ This partial mastodon pelvis was recently donated to the Brown County Historical Society in New Ulm, MN. It was found in 1987 in a gravel pit within the city limits. New Ulm borders the western bank of the glacial River Warren’s river valley, which now contains the Minnesota River.

It’s a #lostbones #FossilFriday! πŸ‚πŸ¦₯🐴🐘πŸͺπŸŸπŸƒ Newly discovered. Just out of the #Minnesota River and still drying out. This specimen was recently donated to the New Ulm Riverside History & Nature Learning Center.

It was discovered face down with just the backside of one horn exposed according to the Nature Center's curator. It measures 66cm (26") across the horn cores.

The specimen was found near Shakopee on the Minnesota River and measures ~25 inches across its horn cores.

The New Ulm Nature Center provides a β€œhands-on” experience for both young and old patrons.
