Rust: the that promised the world but mostly just delivered a decade of and endless . ๐ŸŽ‰ Apparently, betting on is akin to wagering on the longevity of your New Yearโ€™s resolutions โ€“ sounds great in theory, but who are we kidding? ๐Ÿ™„

Sadly, resolutions rarely work. They're easy to make but hard to keep. Here are two perspectives about making resolutions that may help you.

Even though this quarterly review of my yearly goals is much longer than my monthly posts were last year, it was both easier and more fun to write. And just writing it gives me inspiration for the next quarter too. That was unexpected.

Of all the #NewYearsResolutions I made back in December, not bothering to watch #Newsnight has been by some distance the easiest to keep. 10 March today and not only have I not cracked, Iโ€™ve not even missed it.

Weigh in: 271.5
It's been since 1/2/25 since I checked in on this. Lost 10.5 lbs.
I've managed to maintain cutting all sugar and sticking to a diet of mostly vegetables and meats. I would call it keto but I'm trying to eat a lot more veggies than meat. Instead of noodles or rice, I've been using spring salad, and that works quite well. According to my glucose meter I'm in "light nutritional ketosis."
Notable improvements: my sleep is better and I've been waking up more easily. Maybe I have better focus? I'm not sure on that one yet. My word counts are up.
I know this first 10 pounds is mostly water weight, and this period is about establishing habits and changing my palate. My work has a cafeteria buffet that leads me to overeat. My biggest habit win has been taking my lunch to work every day and establishing new brain paths around that.
The VA Move Program is a telehealth series, and you join the program where it is, you don't have a cohort that starts from module one and goes forward. So I'm not forming any relationships with other members, but the material is good. So far we've focused on the impacts of stress on eating, the stories we tell ourselves about food and support systems. It goes by pretty fast in only an hour, but the book has a lot of info to think about.
I like to snack, and I like to feel full, so I'm working on those two major behaviors. I was also just gifted a treadmill, so I can start doing some heart rate work in the evenings. It's still too damn cold to ride my bike to work.
Thanks everyone for your support. I feel like I'm in the part of the quest where we're racing across the open plain, but the dark wood is waiting ahead where things will really get tough.
Here's to everybody's #NewYearsResolutions.

Apparently, weighing yourself every two weeks is not enough, in and of itself, to make the number on the scale go down.

I do arts and crafts time 4 times a week. More if I'm feeling ambitious. I recently got gifted a coloring book for my birthday and it's what I've been working on for my arts and crafts time lately. I just finished tonight. Honestly I've never finished a page in any of the coloring books I have. I have a short attention span. I stuck with it this time and I'm pretty happy with it.

Last night I heard a declare that one of her New Year's resolutions is to stop eating at McDonald's and Burger King.

Remembering something of my own teenage years, that I would absolutely NOT do anything that my parents approved of, I limited my display of overwhelming joy at hearing this to nothing more than a raised eyebrow.

It took me some time to get around to publishing the blog post, but I have already started to work on my New Year's resolutions for 2025. Sustainability, Openness Advocacy, Learning and Health are the overall themes. #NewYearsResolutions

Is it better to keep your resolutions secret or commit to them publicly? I try to work it out in this week's post--at least for myself.

Today marks the end of the first full week of 2025.

Sunday Questions:

1. This week, how much attention did you spend on people and things you don't like?

2. Was it serving you?
