that night, in one of my dreams, i was in the room where i spent most of my childhood, which was supposed to be my bedroom but it always felt like just an empty room to me. i revisit it in many of my nights. in this dream, i was having an anxiety attack, i don't remember why, and i was calling out for someone to come and help me in my distress.

i was talking to my girlfriend by text messages, but it wasn't enough, so i called my brother for help.

at some point, someone opened the door to the downstairs hallway and started walking up to me, telling me with a slightly frustrated look that they were on their way. except that to my ear, i had difficulty knowing if it was my brother or my father that said this. but because i thought it could be my father, it instantly snapped me out of my anxiety attack.

i was crying uncontrollably, screaming and everything, but the mere fact of having potentially heared my father's voice took me out of that state, and put me in a state of total sideration and fight or flight. i was suddenly stunned into silence. because i was afraid of being screamed at or of facing reprisals for having screamed so loudly for help.

the change in emotional state was so jarring that it actually woke me up.

these days, my nights are very bad and i have extremely distressing dreams all the time. but i have to admit that this one is particularly interesting and quite revealing of many past traumas and of the relationship i have with this person, and just my mental state in general.

i haven't lived with him for 7 or 8 years now. and it's been over a year since i've seen him. yet every night, i see him again. every night, i'm back in my childhood home. and i do mean every night, it's inevitable. i may no longer live with him, but he lives in my head.

this dream made me realize how intense this is for me. that the sheer fear of him is enough for my brain to somehow collapse onto itself and bury a very intense anxiety attack, in an emotional shift so jarring that it can tear me out of sleep.

what a perfect day to see my therapist.

Since 1983, Illusion Of Safety has been the ongoing project of Daniel Burke The work activates modes of perception to facilitate direct access to the psyche, emotions, and the infinite in order to address the necessity of balance and the nature of dichotomy.

Working under the name DREKKA since 1996, American composer Michael Anderson has toured, traveled, and collaborated extensively; collecting memories and building a personalized archive of sound that dates back to the mid-1980’s.

Boy Dirt Car: Founded in 1981 Outlaws, Outsiders and Artifacts have played a part of Boy Dirt Car from the very inception. Along with the nightmarish chaos and improvisation that has exposed evidence of a decaying culture in 1980’s abandoned soundscapes. These sounds have now been replaced with an artifact that echoes the final vision of destruction of the western world . Now in our fourth decade Boy Dirt Car and our joyful noise have continued. Karl J Paloucek: Composer and performer of electro-acoustic music since the mid-to-late 1980s. Often works with pianos, sewingmachines and metal percussion, among other elements. Has performed in numerous groups over the years, includingShrilltower, Impact Test, Boy Dirt Car and others, and has worked in various capacities on recording projects with late percussionist Z’EV, Germany’s Einstürzende Neubauten, and, more recently, Colorado-based art collective Biota.
