This morning I conducted my first research interview for the book, and wrote 3000 words of notes, most of which are short & contain time stamps to my reference recording.

I was so exhausted after but I think that if I take it slow & steady, giving space for my body’s needs, I can do this.

After a long Christmas break - and bingeing a whole bunch of episodes of #TheShitNoOneTellsYouAboutWriting podcast - I plonked myself back down in the writing chair today and came up with over 500 words that have me quite pleased with my progress. Most importantly, I feel like I've FINALLY cracked the issue of tone... I can finally hear myself in the new opening paragraphs, and that's what I've been missing. Grateful that even when I'm at a low point with #writing, there's always a somewhat mindless task of editing or rearranging text that can at least make me feel like some rudimentary progress has been made. When I play pool (at which I am unapologetically terrible), I refer to my scratch shots as "just moving the balls around," which is what today felt like in a lot of ways.
