I wrote about how I spent years not knowing how to talk about feelings, masculinity, and #NonviolentCommunication and the difference it has made in how I resolve conflicts with others.

Last night in our Nonviolent Communication study group we explored sincere gratitude - both giving and receiving.
It was a lovely module and I'm encouraged to more openly share with others when they have added beauty, care, understanding, compassion, joy to my life.
Speaking it out loud and connecting with those who create good in our worlds is critically important - now more than ever!
Imagine being Hated by Someone You Don't Know: 2of2
What kind of lesson are we teaching when we respond to creative expression with such aggressive judgment? What message does it send when we prioritize our own preferences to the point of silencing others? He is basically saying "You deserve to be censored because you have an animated AGI profile photo instead of your real-life photo." That's just rude!
Let's remember that online interactions, like any other, should be grounded in respect. We can disagree, we can have concerns, but we should always strive to communicate without resorting to personal attacks. If we are aiming to create a world where our children are able to create, then we must create a world where all are respected.

I saw a man declare in the Fediverse that they were blocking anyone using Studio Ghibli-style profile pictures because their daughter is learning to draw.
As a creative who uses AI to enhance my branding, including a Ghibli-inspired avatar for my Coffee With Crissy podcast, I was immediately labeled as an enemy. My passion for Miyazaki's films, a love I've carried for decades, was met with hostility. And I don't know this man but he's decided to hate me.
The irony of someone expressing concern for their daughter's artistic development while simultaneously spewing hateful words online is not lost on me.
"Most of us grew up speaking a language that encourages us to label, compare, demand, and pronounce judgments rather than to be aware of what we are feeling and needing." Marshall B. Rosenberg. #NonviolentCommunication #NVC
Die meisten von uns sind mit einer Sprache aufgewachsen, die uns ermutigt zu benennen, zu vergleichen, zu fordern und Urteile zu fällen anstatt uns bewusst zu sein, was wir fühlen und brauchen.

Avoid defining reality
https://infighting.org/tools-and-practices/avoid-defining-reality
This is a common pitfall in dysfunctional relationships and volunteer groups with low relational competencies.
«We define someone’s reality when we communicate to them that we know what they think or feel better than they do. When we define someone’s reality, we believe and act as though we’re mind readers, as though we’re the expert on their experience.»
“Know Your Truth”
«Many people let others’ opinions determine how they judge their own actions. Some people think it’s okay to take pens from the office because “everyone does it.” Or they think that it’s okay to keep the extra change that the cashier gave by mistake because “it was her error, not mine.”
Integrity is about showing up day after day in harmony with our own values. I don’t want to kick my dog even though my neighbors might think it’s okay. I don’t want to spank my children just because my parents spanked me. I want to decide what is in harmony with my values and act accordingly. Only then is my need for integrity met.
What are your deepest values? Are your actions in harmony with them?»

@carapace Very #NonviolentCommunication / #CompassionateCommunication , thank you 👌
When we don’t know how to directly and clearly express what we need, but can only make analyses of others that sound like criticism to them, wars are never far away - whether verbal, psychological, or physical. #nonviolentcommunication

@CursedSilicon @rubenerd I’m worn out by the dreary and inevitable round of OS advocacy, with both ‘us’ and ‘them’ baying like wounded members of persecuted religious minorities, arguing about which OS is most worthy of our love and devotion. Any love we harbour for our gadgets is unrequited and generally tragic – not least because we are not destined to have a long-term love-affair with your gizmos, as they will be semi-obsolete in a year or two.
Some of you on this channel may be familiar with one of tne featured speakers at our Free Online Event on Dec 8, due to his work in permaculture. His name is Les Malbon, a professor in the Kinesiology department at Vancouver Island University.

Still no understanding of the role that violence plays in frustrating e.g. managers' and change agents' plans. Or even what constitutes "violence" - and its counterpoint "nonviolence".

My friends tell me they feel comfortable talking about their feelings, needs and boundaries with me.
