@mlanger
On the #NorfolkBroads and #uk #canals running an engine (portable generator, outboard or inboard) on a mooring is banned.

Under all normal circumstances I would certainly moan about an enforced 05:30 start.

Now you're making me feel guilty!

But I do agree, abandoned boats are a problem.

I failed to find time to add a further update when we completed our cruise on Tuesday. From #Neatishead we passed The Ice House, one of the impressive #houses at #Irstead Shoals.

We moored at #HowHill where we spent an hour walking around the #gardens. We then proceeded to #LudhamBridge where we moored for the night, eating at The Dog where a couple of guys turned up and entertained us for half an hour. It was possibly the best impromptu #entertainment I've ever experienced. The photograph does not indicate how much #laughter there was and how we enjoyed #singing along.

We left our #mooring just before 06:45 as we needed to be back in #Stalham for a meeting at 10:00 and needed to pick up some stuff from home before that.

We followed this morning's #plan, starting by going to #Neatishead #Staithe and buying #provisions and having a #coffee and #Norfolk #shortcake at the #community #shop.

The #dyke narrows considerably as you near the staithe but what amazed us was seeing a #Muntjac deer on the return down #Limekiln #dyke

Having cruised down the #River Ant we reached #BartonBroad. We plan on staying here tonight with our #mudweight over the bow. Tomorrow morning we'll call at #Neatishead and buy a few #provisions at the #village #community #shop.

We're out #cruising on "Singing the Blues" again. We don't seem to have time for #boating. Our last #trip was in November gregafloat.org.uk/safari/24111
and before that it was July

We're back at #SouthWalsham again and I've just managed to take this #twilight #panorama shot with my phone (not the best of #cameras).

It's been a while since I visited our #boat (built in 1977). When we were last aboard the second hinge on the toilet seat disintegrated.

Given the way parts of both had gone brittle I wonder if they were the originals. True or not I was surprised that spares were available. It's just that I hadn't found time to fit the #seat till today.

On arrival there was a surprise, an intriguing #craft on a nearby #mooring, a 38 seat #escape pod from a now dismantled #NorthSea #oil #rig

Once on the boat I stowed away the heaters that had been left on board but no longer plugged in and refitted the #toilet seat.

@MrCopperpot
#Broadcaster includes #tidetables (essential if you plan to go through #GreatYarmouth and visit the quieter southern rivers of the #NorfolkBroads) and a table of cruising times between key points on the #Broads. Free paper copies of the magazine are available at the various visitor centres and most local pubs.

I don't do Facebook or other mainstream social media sites, but would recommend browsing around
forum.norfolkbroadsnetwork.com
There's plenty of locals and experienced visitors there who will answer questions (providing you demonstrate you've done some research of your own and just need a little more detail).

You can get a flavour of my boating experience of the Broads (from the mid 1960s) at:

@MrCopperpot
Nice pictures of The Bridge Inn at Acle and Barton Broad!

Tell us more about your planned cruise. Where are you starting from? How long have you got? When do you start? Are you an angler? Have you children to consider? Have you considered the issue of passing under the lower bridges at Potter Heigham and Wroxham? What have you discovered from the likes of TripAdvisor?

I seem to be the only person on Mastodon who lives close to the #NorfolkBroads

Just home! Good to be performing at a sell-out gig. Hardly a stadium, but lots of praise for our performance from those attending the local church hall at #Wroxham in heart of the #NorfolkBroads

barroomblues.co.uk try to play music from the #British #Blues #Boom of the 1960s. It went down well with an audience that seemed older than us and our combined age must be approaching 210 years!

Nothing like that here in #Norfolk, but I did finally get round to my attempt at #winterising our #boat as reported at
