@hikingdude @TimKStanton I was lucky enough to see whales about 1000 nm north of Hawaii on a NOAA research cruise. I was so surprised all I could get out of my mouth was to point and stammer ... big ... big ... dolphins. Funny thing was I spotted them before the group on the cruise that was there specifically to spot them ... but in their defense, the whales popped up close to our ship an they were busy scanning the horizon and further out. I did the best I could with the camera I had at the time (April 2008). #Whales #NorthPacific #NOAA

Operating in breach of the ICJ ruling for several years, Japan eventually ceased Antarctic high-seas whaling in 2016, and has until 2018 only hunted #whales within its territorial waters. Since Watson's arrest less than two weeks ago, Japan has announced that they have resumed the hunt of #endangered #FinWhales, the world's second largest animal. CPWF believes Japan is planning to resume high-seas whaling in the #NorthPacific as early as this year.
