I have mixed feelings about 'Riot Women' myself. I feel it's a bit 'M&S'/bland, which may be due to the way TV has to be packaged for streaming services these days. Outside of the UK who understands 'gritty Northern'?
I also get the frustration about the lack of central queer - specifically lesbian - characters.
OTOH, for all this writer's nostalgia about the 90s riot grrrl scene, that wasn't a 'generation' of lesbians. It was a cult scene for a minority of (overwhelmingly) white women and was more of a US thing.
From what I remember, most gay/bisexual young women in the UK were listening to queer-friendly mainstream pop and rock.
And there WAS still a lot of exclusion of women in music - usually via them not being taken as seriously as men, especially when it came to playing instruments. All the women she lists were primarily singers.

Just seen the news about the attack on the synagogue in Manchester.
God, this is awful. And evil.
What I don't even get with people who carry out these sort of attacks is what they imagine they're achieving.
If the justification is anything to do with Palestine, then as awful as that situation is, it's not going to be made better by killing innocent people.
If anything, it will make it worse as it gives ammunition to anti-Muslim voices in power.
And if it's in the name of religion, then how can you justify attacking people who are praying?
And if it's about hating people just because they belong to a certain group - in this case Jews, what hope is there for humanity when we don't see each other as fellow human beings?

Apparently the word "twat" had the same origin as ginnel or the word began as "twichell" which meant an alleyway between bushes or walls, going back to the 11th century. You can see the, um, parallels.
Good to see Northern England getting more explicit recognition from the OED.
I was also delighted to be reminded of the existence of the word "apeth", which I have not heard in speech for decades, and to learn of its etymology; as a child, I thought it had something to do with apes!

The Peter Mitchell exhibition at the Photographers’ Gallery (London) is fabulous.
He has spent his life photographing ‘dying buildings’, scarecrows, working class communities, etc in Leeds.
My snaps do NOT do justice to his work at all.
It’s only ten quid to go into the Photographers’ Gallery (five if you have an Art Pass) and that gives you access to all the exhibitions they have on.

Anyone who knew me as a kid might not believe it, but I really take care of my teeth and have done for many years with increasing commitment! But like many others, I've been avoiding basic dental checkups mostly because in my case I'm not entirely convinced my particular dentist will implement #Covid safety precautions. Dental treatment is one of those maskless inevitabilities where the least they can do is mask up as staff and use air filtration. I'm not assured this is the case at my default dental practice. If anyone in #Sheffield, #SouthYorkshire or further afield in #NorthernEngland are aware of any #dentists that implement cautionary measures, do let me know.
