Image: Michael Kane: Blue & Yellow Girl, 2024, acrylic on paper, 42 x 30 cm | a quickly sketched face, in bright paint, blue and yellow; the face fills most o fthe page, the figure apparently ha no hair; the left side of the face, as we see it, is apparently in shade; the background colour scheme is Ukrainian • “Taylor Galleries are delighted to present this extraordinary collection of works on paper by Michael Kane. Recent works on paper (2024-25) resonate with a powerful sense of pragmatism – Kane marvels at a world that continues to offer individuals endless challenges and chances to carve a singular solid space for themselves, often against the odds; and he celebrates the resilient spirit of those who take on the world, as it spins.…”

Image: Eimear Walshe: photograph | photo with partial views of probably five calves; the fields are of the traditional West-of-Ireland sort: dry-stone walls, fairly scrubby grass, grey sky, hit of low trees in the background; two calves are in full view – and looking straight towards the camera – while the other three are only partly visible, including the sideways rump of a light-brown calf fulling much of the right-hand side of the photo;; the red bars of a gate cross the photo, one bar cutting the sky towards the top of the image, one very close to the bottom of the image, one vertical along the left border; all the bars are out of focus   • “Luan Gallery presents VASSALDOMS UNITED, a solo exhibition of newly commissioned work by Eimear Walshe. The exhibition launches at 2pm on Saturday 26th of April, with an exhibition walkthrough with the artist and curator Aoife Banks at 2:30pm. All are welcome to attend…”

#MPs vote to #decriminalise #abortion in step forward for #ReproductiveRights | #Politics | The Guardian

Finally, #England and #Wales may be edging towards moving abortion laws from the 19th century to the 21st. This should have been done decades ago but at least it’s happening. (For those of you wondering why this excludes other parts of the #UK, namely #Scotland and #NorthernIreland, they have their own legislatures to decide these matters.)

Peace photography: supporting conflict transformation

Read our article by Allan LEONARD 👉 sharedfuture.news/peace-photog

“While peace photography isn't established as a genre, the Imaging Peace research established that in practice and as a way of working with communities and supporting recovery from conflict and transformation of conflict, it is actually thriving.”

Image: apparently a photo from above of a figure floating in water, arms and legs akimbo in, probably a wetsuit; the water is presumably the sea, and near the figure we see various organic shapes that seems like blown-up microscopic plankton; the circular central area of the photo is of normal luminosity, with the photo getting progressively darker towards the edges of the landscape-shape image • “Solomon Fine Art is delighted to host a solo exhibition of new work by one of Ireland’s most celebrated sculptors, Rachel Joynt. Best known for her large scale public sculpture, this new body of work by Joynt is intimate both in scale and nature and includes bronze sculpture, print and moving image.”

Image: Damien Meade | although it looks very much like a photo of a sculptured head, it is probably a painting; we see a face looking at us, grey towards the top, dark purple towards the bottom, bouffant hair, looking back at us; lit from upper left • “On Waking is a group painting exhibition featuring new and existing work by Jenny Eden, Christopher Hanlon, Harminder Judge, Gillian Lawler, Damien Meade, Karen Roulstone and Rebecca Sitar, painters from Ireland and the UK, whose paintings communicate wonder and encounter, things half-glimpsed, remembered and imagined. It brings together paintings with an otherworldly sensibility, where the slippage between recollection and metamorphosis, between what is real or imagined, is played out in a series of new realities. The title of the exhibition directs us to the ‘waking moment’ when our sense of time and reality is unlike usual conscious experiences. As we leave the cocoon of sleep, the veil between…”

Always good to educate visitors about the old coloniser (Titanic Exhibition Belfast). 👍

A display item in the Titanic Museum, in the style of an old street newspaper stand, declaring that "England is Ireland's Enemy".
