Lt. Col. Petrov saved us all
Lt. Col. Petrov became like a wall
While leaders and fools pushed for a drop
He remembered the wisdom of going full stop:
Keep Calm And DONT DROP THE NUKES

Democracy Now!’s Amy Goodman’s contrast of how Corporate Media reported America’s use of atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki presents the perfect example of why Independent Media must be supported.

Since in 1945, we've lived under the shadow of disaster.

Despite decades of and disarmament progress, nuclear powers are now rearming, testing terrifying new weapons, and backing out of treaties.

The is at 89 seconds to midnight. It’s not too late—but only if the public steps up again to demand and real global security.

The bomb dropped on #Nagasaki (21 kilotons) was the most powerful bomb ever used in armed conflict, but it was not the largest nuclear bomb ever detonated. As a result of the nuclear arms race between the #US and the #USSR after World War II, thermonuclear bombs were developed. The largest of these, a 50-58 megaton hydrogen bomb, was detonated by the Soviet Union in 1961 as a demonstration of force. It had a destructive power 2,762 times greater than the bomb dropped on Nagasaki. The explosion was visible from a distance of 900 km and caused a seismic wave that circled the Earth three times.

Today marks 80 years since one of the most tragic decisions in human history: the United States dropping a uranium bomb on #Hiroshima followed three days later by a plutonium bomb on #Nagasaki
As a result, by the end of 1945, between 150,000 and 246,000 people, mostly civilians, had died in #Japan as a result of explosions, burns, radiation sickness and other related illnesses.
