Some motorists admit their own poor driving skills and awareness as they miss/ignore extremely clear advance warnings of road closures until they're physically forced to turn around (I still saw a driver pass the "road closed" sign the other day)

Extract from the linked Coventry Live news article about significant local road closures, with the following paragraph highlighted: "CoventryLive reported claims of 'chaos' as some cars were forced to U-turns in the road as Sat Navs were not recognising the closure of part of Higham Lane."

Diverting pedestrians because of works closing a path? Be sure to teach them how to cross a quiet residential road. Don't worry about telling drivers to look out for extra foot traffic.

A near clean sweep for Reform here in #Nuneaton + #Bedworth with a complete wipe-out of Conservative councillors for the borough. Seems clear people had lost faith in the old Tory administration but those mindful to vote simply switched their shade of blue.

Another low turnout in #Nuneaton and #Bedworth at just ~31% (though slightly up on the borough council election turnout last year of ~27%). It's common in local polls but still shows most people do not engage in who represents and makes decisions for them. #LE2025 #LocalElections2025

My Labour MP just knocked on the door! Pleased to have a chat but did say my vote went Green, but a tough decision; if we had PR/STV, Labour would've been my #2. Worryingly, she thinks Reform will have a very strong showing in borough 🤬

Bad news - serious cyclist injury on Eastboro Way, #Nuneaton today. This is a busy, 40mph road (but with some drivers going faster) with industrial units and thus heavy traffic. There is no cycle infrastructure and the one footpath is not wide, but it's an important route to bypass the town centre.

Completely missed that it's the annual #Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel Week! As usual, there are only two schools taking part in the borough, both in #Nuneaton - well done to both Whitestone Infants and Chetwynd Junior schools. It'd be great to see more getting involved

New on the blog: Reporting an excessive speed limit on an important main road needed to access a brand new secondary school that is due to open in September. Will #WarwickshireCountyCouncil be proactive in road safety and get this dropped to 30mph before school starts?

The long-awaited Nuneaton to Coventry “super cycleway” may take a small step forward later this week with a tiny part of the route being put to the Portfolio Holder for Transport for approval. This features as part of a broader programme of road improvements and covers the south-most section through Exhall – only about 0.55km (0.35mi) and with serious compromises in quality.

#Warwickshire is getting a smidge over £2.9m from the latest award from Active Travel England - I wonder if this means they'd finally be able to move forward with their long-promised cycle schemes in #Nuneaton and #Bedworth?

I've taken a closer look and submitted comments about
#WarwickshireCountyCouncil's new plans for redeveloping #Nuneaton's ring road with a gyratory. Despite years of development, they still fall short for active travel - in one case, dangerously so! But is better possible?

Gyratory plans for Nuneaton’s ring road

A critical look at Warwickshire’s plans for a redeveloped junction on Nuneaton’s ring-road which, in one instance at least, might be considered negligent to the safety of those using active travel.

Video: Proposals for Nuneaton’s Leicester Road Gyratory

Warwickshire County Council has released its latest iteration of design for redeveloping an important road junction in Nuneaton, linking Leicester Road, Newtown Road, and Vicarage Street into one large gyratory. Here, I take a look at those plans from an active travel perspective (walking, wheeling, and cycling) to see what we have and where the plans fall down.

A written article is also […]

Sheffield cycle stands installed for the new Hampton Hotel in #Nuneaton that opened a few months ago - already one has suffered what is presumably impact damage(!)

A shame these aren't under cover or directly visible from reception (I don't think) given this is a hotel. There is at least CCTV.

Two rows of five bicycle Sheffield stands (with more visible in the distance), outside of a newly built hotel adjacent to its car park. The first stand of the first row is damaged. The tube is pinched flat and bent backwards near the ground, presumably after something has hit it.

Every year at the lights switch on is the same - pointless plastic tat stalls, and a load of noisy diesel generators. Two elements that if it were up to me, would disappear. I wonder what percentage of this rubbish promptly ends up in landfill?
