From my adventures in #OpenScience and #OpenPedagogy: I always thought the importance of #OpenAccess was that people can read the paper and access the data, so sharing a version of record or a postprint of a paywalled paper would do the job. Only when I started preparing #OERs I realized the importance of licensing: being able to re-use figures, datasets, code from publications. In #sedmentology ans #geoscience #OpenAccess is a sore minority. I can access the most important papers from my field, but I cannot share my teaching based on them.
Fortunately my former supervisor agreed to license his thin section collection with a #CreativeCommons license, so I am gradually adding them here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Geozentrum_Nordbayern (more to come).
FWIW I've also learned that @GIMP is great for editing #metadata but Mastodon web interface does not read it from the image.
