Today was another sunny day, perfect for #cooking in the #solarOven. I didn't do anything spectacular, just cooked rice. But it worked perfectly again, at least as well as in the rice cooker. The photos are attached.

Today I
* stressed over a failed $51 payment and spent a while on hold trying to find out what to do about it (more #mutualaid would definitely help here)
* made more progress on the solar panel bumper (drilled holes in the wood pieces and fastened most of them together, except for the top side expansion piece that has to be cut lengthways and is taking much effort so I am cutting it a bit at a time),
* fixed my saw's (missing screw to hold on its handle) problem with a coach bolt and nut,
* made a start on chopping up the motor housing for the swing arm motor I removed from the front of the bus yesterday,
* dismantled a higgledy-piggledy ladder for its wood and screws,
* and enjoyed some nice sandwiches.

#OffGridPower - based on what little I think I know, I'd love to deploy a Sodium Ion battery storage system for "my place". The problem is that I've already bought an inverter/charger system that I know will support Lithium Ion batteries, and I'd really prefer not to have to re-buy that if I don't have to. My major issue is that at my place, temperature range is -40 to +100 F (+38 C).The low end of that is bad for Lithium based cells. Sodium Ion may not like the bottom, but is more survivable?
This is really interesting stuffโฆ Kris needs power when she goes to equestrian competitions (usually 3-4 days). She currently uses a $300 (+tax) Bluetti EB3A, which is capable of powering 600W (more in boost mode, not tested) with 268Wh of capacity.
She is able to recharge it with a 120W portable solar panel, while also charging devices (pass through power).

I wanted to have Wi-Fi on my off-grid allotment, so I made my LTE modem run on battery power. In the post I describe the build process and the list of needed parts. It's a fun and simple project for everyone with a similar need :)

At the moment our off grid system means we make our own bread in a breadmaker, use an induction hob for boiling/cooking, and now have the added bonus of a wee oven to bake things in. It is certainly big enough for a couple of small pies, a small stew, and even a few oven chips. And definitely a couple of baked tatties.
