Une dizaine de voies de chemin de fer en parallèle partant de sous la position du photographe et se dirigeant vers le centre de l’image. On peut distinguer les quais de la gare de Renens au fond. Le soleil n’est pas encore visible, mais les couleurs du ciel indiquent qu’il va bientôt se lever. Les stratus dans le ciel reçoivent eux déjà la lumière du soleil par dessous, qui leur donne une couleur rose. Les voies de chemin de fer, la gare et la ville autour sont encore toutes dans la pénombre. Mais les rails sont mis en évidence car ils reflètent la lumière du ciel.
