Galaxy Watch6 will get the April 2025 update globally soon!

Samsung always releases all smartwatch updates to Korea first before all other regions to ensure that everything is OK according to early feedback from users. For example, after the Watch7 update has been released, the April 2025 update has been released to the Galaxy Watch6, starting with Korea. This happened on April 21st.

Our analysis of the release dates of new firmware updates, starting from the final One UI 6 Watch released last November, has come to the conclusion that the following updates were released in this way for the BT version:

  • BXJ5 (One UI 6 Watch update with October 2024 security patch)
    • Korea: November 19th, 2024
    • Global: November 26th, 2024
    • Difference: exactly 7 days
  • BXL2 (Stability update with October 2024 security patch)
    • Korea: January 7th, 2025
    • Global: January 14th, 2025
    • Difference: exactly 7 days

For the Watch7, the latest update, AYCD, was released like this:

  • AYCD (One UI 6 Watch update with March 2025 security patch)
    • Korea: April 8th, 2025
    • Global: April 14th, 2025
    • Difference: exactly 6 days

There is an update pending release for the global, the BYD1 update, that was released in Korea on April 21st, 2025. Therefore, according to the update record, we expect that the global rollout becomes available on either April 28th or 29th. If our analysis is right, the Galaxy Watch6 users will be able to update their watches in the two mentioned days.

Galaxy Watch5 and Watch4 are still waiting for this update.

Exclusive: Samsung Galaxy S23 devices freeze on Instagram Reels

In some regions, such as India and UAE, almost three weeks after the most recent security update has been applied to the Galaxy S23 devices, people began reporting issues regarding their devices freezing and rebooting automatically. This issue was disruptive for users, because it means that they have lost all unsaved work.

People in those regions were reporting issues related to how their Galaxy S23 devices freeze when scrolling through Instagram, especially when watching reels (short videos). Such devices would freeze, then restart abruptly after about 1 to 2 minutes. The issue was raised to Samsung Members Community by many people, including the following posts:

Some reports claim that the issue started as early as three days ago, and the latest version of Instagram that is on the Play Store at the time of the incident is 374.0.0.43.67. People tried various solutions, such as checking for Instagram updates and reinstalling it, but the problem persisted.

We speculate that it may be because there is some kind of bug in either the security update itself or the latest version of Instagram. We are hoping for the latter, but, given the nature of the issue, it looks like that the affected phones were suffering from “kernel panic” issues when scrolling reels. When an Android phone gets a “kernel panic,” it typically freezes for 1 to 2 minutes before rebooting.

We recommend that you hold off watching Instagram reels for now until either a software update (One UI 7) or an Instagram update gets released, which should hopefully resolve this issue.
