I wish @openstreetmap editors would stop making changesets which cover massive areas. It makes looking at the change history of a building or a street really tedious. #openstreetMap

Are there any good #openstreetmap frontends for #orienteering/#rogaining?

I mostly use government forestry maps for teaching #scouts but they are getting a bit old and include a fair bit of extraneous detail.

At a minimum I need to be able to print to a PDF at a defined scale with UTM grid, contours, roads and tracks. Blazed trees would be great but probably a stretch goal.

@mfuhrmann Hm? Erst mal die Gebäude; auch den Übergang. Dann #IndoorMapping der Stockwerke, Räume und Stützen. Gehen indoor da auch Tische? Die Regionen erst mal.
Weiter als #MicroMapping für die Geleise und Modellgebäude?! Da in #OpenStreetMap alles geht, geht auch alles in Miniatur. Was zeigen die 2D/3D Renderer da noch alles an? Terrain ist bei OSM ja noch mangelnd. Wie gehen in "echt" Tunnel und Berge? Selbst wenn 3D die height-tags berücksichtigt werden.
Die Standard- #VectorTiles reichen jedenfalls nicht. Aber man kann ja Zusätzliche parallel generieren.
Das #MiWuLa wäre eine Schweine-Arbeit! Wenn sie helfen, mit Plänen und Dateien, wird es 50% leichter. Hat schon mal jemand von #OSM mit denen gesprochen? Einfach mal fragen ...
Einige Teile sind ja 1:1 nach gebaut, also in OSM schon vorhanden. Könnte man kopieren.
Es gibt 3D Renderer, wo Autos fahren. Züge noch nicht, gell? Dafür FOSS-Bahn-Spiele. Und das dann in der VR-Brille - wild zu einem virtuellen Rundgang. Träum ...

@michaelflanagan you are getting things slightly mixed up there, #OpenStreetMap is a database of geographic information curated mainly from volunteer contributions but some other data sources (for example government data) is included too. This isn't really much different, except for the volunteer bit, than how Here gets its data too.

What is different is that OSM doesn't develop any navigation and other end user apps, these are all developed and offered by third parties, big and small.

I’ve been trying out ‘HERE WeGo’ as a Google Maps alternative on the phone and CarPlay. Seems pretty good actually.

Mostly European, based in Netherlands, although looks like Intel have 15% ownership of the company too. Used to be Nokia Maps and a few other names over years.

Anyone know something better I should try? Or reasons for or against HERE?

Would love to be using OpenStreetMap, I think, but have found it too clunky and unreliable tbh.
