Went for a long run today through the center and then along the Bristol to Bath cycle path. Did loads of mapping with #streetcomplete for #openstreetmap and added just under 500 thing to the map.

The app finds missing map data in your vicinity and displays it on a map as quests. Solve each quest by visiting the location on-site and answering a simple question to update the map.
Whilst my son was in his 40 minute swimming lesson I went and done some nearby #OpenStreetMap mapping (primarily house numbers) and got back just before he came out with near perfect timing.
Ja, es war ein besonderer Tag. Überraschend für mich war das viele Schaukeln, vom Boden aus sehen die Zeppeline immer so erhaben ruhig aus. Durch das viele Knipsen wurde es mir sogar zeitweise übel.
Unmengen Luftaufnahmen, viele mit großem Häusermeer. Da möchte man natürlich mit #OpenStreetMap vergleichen.

This is my 3rd or 4th "serious" incident since I started contributing to #OpenStreetMap in 2016.

1. A lawyer-type in the posh neighborhood of Ādarsh Nagar. All he did after loudly arguing with me was to call the frail and aged colony guard to remove me...the latter wasn't about to pick a fight with me, so I was still able to complete my survey in that street. 😅

A solid 24-hour sprint later -- I had to wrangle data from tables in PDFs to get a solid baseline to work with (#csv here: https://pastebin.com/JGLxQMbT) -- and I've got all of the polling stations for tomorrow's #election in Tarrant county mapped out in #osm #OpenStreetMap :D

I experimented a bit within the polling_station:* namespace. Thinking I might be settling into a pattern, at least for #Texas. I dunno if I want to build up explicit relations between polling places and their (typical) associated buildings/areas or not. So for now, I chucked the relation data in a tag instead.
Ideally, future elections won't be such a pain to get bootstrapped; most polling stations tend to stay the same across elections.

И конечно же я попробовал затащить редактор #OpenStreetMap написанный на Java (JOSM). TLDR; Оно работает! [1] Но есть нюансы:
- Заявляется поддержка Java 8 и 11. На практике JOSM, собранный под Java 11 через него не запустить. То из недр Files.сreateTempFile вылетает что-то, то из библиотек. Удалось допатчить до отсутствия исключений, однако интерфейс так и не появился.
- Пришлось брать последнюю версию JOSM для Java 8 и черри-пикать критичные коммиты (слава Open Source за эту возможность).
- CORS. Если это важно, то либо отключать расширениями [2], либо настраивать их проксю. Прокся также нужна будет, если приложение ходит по UDP.
- Cheerpj — продукт коммерческий, но бесплатен для личного использования. Однако у них есть открытые проекты для запуска бинарей [3]
Если у вас завалялись Java-апплеты, то можете их воскресить :)

@ticho That's kind of why I was afraid of sharing this story - the last thing I want is for people to be turned away from contributing to #OpenStreetMap.
I'm absolutely not stopping surveying. Not ever. Not even in poor areas, which are often unplanned and thus need good maps the most. I'm also looking into bringing some friends along to have a dialogue with That Man, to get him to understand my work and clear my name with the locals.

Kreuzpeilung mit dem Smartphone-Kompass in OSMTracker war erstaunlich genau; bei einem Mast hatte ich eine dritte Peilung und die lag nur etwa 2 Meter neben dem Schnittpunkt der anderen beiden.
