Might publish a blog or two in a few weeks about my work with OpenFOAM, different profilers, and an implementation of an LBM CFD kernel on RISC-V with POSITS.

What a great company to be working for. Learning so much!

Has anyone here worked with DBD plasma actuators for separation control at low Reynolds numbers (Re ~10⁵–10⁶)?
I’m especially interested in practical integration and validation using OpenFOAM or SU2.

I’m interested in active boundary-layer control (DBD plasma actuators), low-speed aerodynamics, and open-source CFD workflows on Linux. Happy to exchange ideas, experiments, and practical insights.

After some trial and error, I realized that to use foamPostProcess on a case directory—even if it’s the default one—you have to include the -solver option. It’s probably documented somewhere, but I couldn’t find it.

Now that I have a reasonably fast CPU again I descended into the #CFD rabbit hole again. #OpenFOAM has a really steep learning curve (it is the opposite of plug-and-play). I last touched it in 2016. So far I have mostly modified some tutorial projects, but it is fascinating. The image shows the pressure distribution (red: higher, blue: lower) on a crude P.180 model created in #OpenVSP.

Just nailed it: Fully automated 3D geometry for CFD pure FreeCAD (headless) + Snakemake magic 😆 . No AI, just smart scripting. Open Source engineering wins again!

If when you execute `paraFoam` in #OpenFOAM you get `paraview: not found` and you could not repair it, you can create a `.foam` file via `foamToVTK` and save the output to a .foam file and open it via #paraview.

Getting a bit further with my exploration of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) this evening. Using the mighty @FreeCAD I've modelled this "Ballute" style parachute and simulated it descending at 6m/s in air. The air velocity is plotted in the images. Ace to see the turbulence in the point cloud/steam chaser view. If any experts fancy a chat.... I HAVE QUESTIONS!

A screenshot of a simulation. A balloon shaped parachute model is descending in a grey box with red and blue areas showing the air velocity. A point cloud view with lots of "steam chaser" lines showing the speed and direction of air flow over the ballute style parachute.

Following on from my earlier stuff about being inspired about parachute/recovery systems and Ballute design in @FreeCAD I've dived into setting up the CfDoF workbench and bashing through a simple tutorial pushing water through a stepped tube. I think I borked the glyph a little, but I feel like I've learnt a little... and seen a LOT to learn.

Screenshot of Paraview showing a fluid flow through a small stepped square tube. The tube ranges in colour blue to red and is covered in small arrows depicting flow.

Fantastic to see this article about #FreeCAD and #OpenFOAM being used to perform CFD analysis on #rocket designs. Lots of mentions for Dave Carter who is a fabulous FreeCAD contributor and creator of the Rocket Workbench. Check out the excellent Peak Of Flight rocketry newsletter here apogeerockets.com/Peak-of-Flig

#OpenFOAM のESI版を数年ぶりにインストールしてるんだけど、ESI版はバイナリ配布やめて自分でビルドしなくちゃいけなくなったのか。
