#OtterX

The OtterX is up and running. In case you’re wondering what this is, it’s a Commander X16 computer in a Mini-ITX form factor.

Hmmm. I'm considering building a riser for the #OtterX to make the expansion slot usable in this ITX case.
Two problems though:
1. Is there ANY standard regarding riser cards for these compact cases?
2. Is there any available #CommanderX16 expansion card around? Whatever is on texelec is out of stock, beside, I wonder if there is anything open hardware for this machine...

I could tackle 1 by making a "flexible" riser, with two hard PCBs connected by flat cables. As for 2... Makes me wonder if this is worth the effort at all.

Finally encased the #OtterX, a #CommanderX16 clone.
I took the time to upgrade both this and the original X16 to R48.

I'll plug the PSU hole once I get the covers from JLCPCB.

Received (and built) my prototype RAM expansion for the #OtterX, to bring it on par with the #CommanderX16.
It works!

Today's build, the #otterx ! Spot the very stupid mistake I did that prevented the board from booting :) (no, it's not that the Vera module is missing)

OtterX board fully assembled, seen from above, resting on my desk, with the side rails for wave soldering still installed.
I wrote up a blog post about the new OtterX case I've been making. The OtterX is a Commander X16 compatible computer in a Mini ITX form factor and I've been working on a laser cut case design for it.

No sax practice today. I spent basically all day building an OtterX instead. The OtterX is a Commander X16 kit clone in an Mini ITX form factor. I have an X16 Developer edition as well but the Otter is in a smaller form factor and may have a slightly better audio layout. Since we want to use the sound of the X16 for some of our chipsurf stuff, and since I’m writing a native tracker for the X16 (DreamTracker, dreamtracker.org), I opted to go ahead and pick up an OtterX.

Despite being a long build, happy to report everything seems to be working! Which is rather surprising for me :P
