It's here - the #PKPIC HSR EMU tender is now open. 20 trains + option for up to 35 more, 320 km/h minimum, minimum approvals PL DE CZ AT (BE NL FR CH IT SK HU welcome), 402 seats, must have a restaurant section, a zone for children and *8+ horizontal bicycle spaces*. Also required is a secondary satellite backhaul for on-board Wi-Fi. In safety and comm systems, ETCS L1+L2 with ability to upgrade from GSM-R to FRMCS in the future and also classic analog Polish stuff. (Running these beyond Berlin and Leipzig appears to be a distant stretch goal at best, so they might not necessarily bother with LZB if it isn't required for everything high-speed-capable)

They say the plan is to start with the Y high-speed line that will be built in parallel running trains Warsaw-Wrocław and Warsaw-Poznań-Szczecin/Berlin (alternating), expanding to Tricity, Leipzig and Prague routes if they use the full option as the HSR buildout allows (yeah, those latter plans are kinda crayon level right now): rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiadomosci/p

All this talk of connection times at @jon's feed has reminded me of a bullshit thing in #PKPIC's domestic conditions of carriage. Namely, they contain a blanket provision stripping you of passenger rights across any connection shorter than 10 mins scheduled. Which would be less crazy if not for the fact that PKP PLK considers a connection requested by a carrier (you can see those when browsing Portal Pasażera, the "receiving" train will have a clickable S in a square by the station in question) satisfied at a minimum of 5 minutes. So after any timetable change (and remember, 5 of those a year here) you may suddenly find yourself unable to buy a through ticket for a particular set of trains for no apparent reason.

Yes, this is the sort of bullshit that makes people here rather less receptive to arguments that maximizing one-seat rides is not a good thing

Okay, so now that I've looked into VagonWeb, it turns out it's only a separate train until Bohumín, where it joins the existing EN Chopin to Munich and EN Slovakia to Prague. That makes a lot more sense XD

So, as I imagine is becoming a regular #RailwayNewYear activity for me, I am Takt hunting. Which is to say, I'm trawling #PLK timetables to see how well #PKPIC's boasts of the increasing number of Takt relations are reflected in the actual timings (having realized that expanding to something similar to mastodon.com.pl/@HaTetsu/11514 would be rather too time-consuming right now). The south is currently rather disrupted by the twin worksites at Katowice station and Kraków-Kozłów, but getting into the 200s, we have our first result!
The (Białystok-)Warsaw-Łódź-Wrocław relation, also known as line P15 in the 2035 network draft, is now almost fully 2h Takt until Ostrów Wielkopolski! (EDIT: In the other direction, there's equal spacing from Wrocław until the 3pm train, at which point things get somewhat messed up and only get evened out around Sieradz) Getting equal spacing on the Ostrów-Wrocław leg has proven beyond PLK's ability at this time, which is understandable - a single-track section, further encumbered due to an ongoing closure on its twin running via Międzybórz Sycowski and, of course, the Gordian knot of the three-track western approach to Wrocław Główny where traffic from seven directions has to fit all work against the planners.

And in Silesia - what's that there? Looks like the morning northbound (and on Sundays also the evening return, but that one's after dark) IC Pilecki will be taking a most eclectic route through the GZM in the next timetable period - from Tychy it will run via Katowice Murcki, Katowice Muchowiec, Sosnowiec Dańdówka (station halt) and Dąbrowa Górnicza Południowa to Dąbrowa Górnicza Ząbkowice

I'm only now really going through the PLK tables (got work, rest and that other project that turns out just doesn't wanna wait xp) and holy, somehow I'd missed the news about EuroNight Carpatia, a Przemyśl-Prague/Budapest/Munich via Vienna night train (Czech couchette in the Prague part, Polish sleeper to Budapest, Polish both to Munich).

Running a *second* night train Kraków-Vienna-Munich is certainly a choice, especially since from what I recall these can't serve Vienna very well as they have to traverse the Westbahn at night to not get into the way of RJXs. Better than dealing with DB for more than absolutely necessary, I guess.

More interesting is that they decided to have it pull into Kędzierzyn-Koźle and do a runaround with the loco instead of using the perfectly cromulent connecting curve that ought to be available there

Another #CrossBorderRail curiosity from said Diet committee hearing - most of us probably know about the expanded Germany offer, but the CEO also bragged about additional trains to Ukraine - 2 extra pairs Przemyśl-Kyiv-Kharkiv and a new Chełm-Kyiv-Kharkiv pair - and how they apparently got Ukrzaliznytsia to time them such that they reasonably connect to domestic trains organized according to the new Takt-based timetables they're trying to build (the whole speech opened with an explanation of what Takt is and why we want it, btw)
