Luna just wanted to help someone out before their job interview. That’s it. She was doing her job—and trying to give someone a shot at their future. But when the stylist refused to cut his hair right in front of him, all Luna could do was watch as that opportunity slipped away.

Discrimination doesn’t always come with slurs or shouting. Sometimes it shows up in whispers and side-eyes. In the refusal to serve someone. In the “not my problem” shrugs. In the silence that follows.

This comic is based on a real experience—and no, no one was held accountable. The salon kept its “welcoming” branding, and the stylists faced no consequences. And the worst part? That man walked out with his head down, like he was the problem.

These moments stay with us. For the people like him, and for the rest of us who try to hold the line, only to realize the line was never drawn in our favor.

We’re still fighting. And we’re still here.

Not a single person being carpet bombed cares about your domestic politics. They care about staying alive. They care about trying to help their injured loved ones. You folks who never suffered violent sieges from foreign entities & never suffered losing many of your beloved family to colonial violence bombing attacks do not fucking understand. I've never felt 100% safe on ANY social media platforms. I don't believe a fully safe SM for BIPOC activists actually exists. I won't waste more time on discussing which SM is best because that's a personal decision for every individual. Just make the best personal choices for yourself.

This video resonates with me & my family a lot. However, our family's experience as #Teochew #WarRefugees, leaving Saigon, was a lot more nightmarish & much more violent than this Mom's experience. One of my Aunties had joined the Vietcong as a medic & communications officer, after quitting her job as an ICU nurse & lived in tunnels for several years. We also had no family or friends who were already living in North America so trying to integrate into life here was more challenging.

I can understand everything they say in Teochew. There's only a few words they say differently than we do - I'll do a video with my Mom soon to point out the differences. They speak a form of Teochew #diaspora in Vietnam, that most of us #Gaginang refer to as #Vietnam villagers Teochew. We speak the Teochew that #Saigon gaginang used since early #displacement from #China years back(a long, long time ago).
