#PaidLeave

I'm shocked - shocked, I tell you - to find that Red State tax revenues & GDP have fallen by billions due to their anti-abortion laws & child-unfriendly labor policies, as well as young women leaving the states.

Going to love watching them all end up downgraded, defaulting on bonds, and even going bankrupt.

Christo-fascism kills economies.

The Costs of Restricting Abortion? More Than $130 Billion Per Year.
A new report quantifies the costs of rising abortion restrictions three years after Dobbs.

"...This is not the first indication that Dobbs has shrunken the workforce and stunted the economy. Recent research from both IWPR and the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), for example, shows that young, highly educated people are moving out of states with abortion bans. And another recent NBER paper found that abortion restrictions increased rates of intimate partner violence by 7 to 10 percent, contributing to a projected increase of $1.24 billion in social costs, including health care and lost productivity for victims. But the new IWPR fact sheet provides some of the timeliest analysis of the economic impacts of Dobbs, and helps quantify the overall costs of rising abortion restrictions nationwide. “This is not just a women’s crisis, it’s really a national economic crisis of significant magnitude,” says Melissa Mahoney, senior research economist at IWPR and lead author of the report..."

Interesting to see such progressive policies passed in such red states. Maybe someone should actually try running on such a platform some time. 🙄

“All three states that passed the measures also supported President-elect Donald Trump, a result experts have highlighted as evidence that ‘progressive policies’ like the minimum wage & paid leave have strong salience with voters regardless of party affiliation.”

“We’ll also cut the cost of #childcare & #ElderCare, & finally, give all working people access to #PaidLeave, which will help everyone caring for #children, caring for aging #parents & that sandwich generation, which is caring for both.”

The US is in 42nd place for life expectancy and still falling. That such a wealthy country can't guarantee a , universal , or is insane. Americans seem okay with servile obedience to power structures and are content with crumbs. Why is that?

They forgot "trying to make time for a simple shower." My biggest and most frustrating challenge as a very new mom was finding the time-- and energy-- to take a long shower. I was chronically sleepy, and there always seemed to be something keeping me from getting in the shower.

Breastfeeding was a challenge in my case. The pump didn't work for me, so I could only feed directly.

Housework also changed. Not only were there more dishes and laundry to clean, but there were always a ton of toys or other baby items to pick up and put away. I could no longer clean most everything in the house in just a few days. Eventually, each room got assigned its own day of the week.

I ended up staying home and leaving the workforce. I looked at the budget and realized I would only make a few dollars a month (with my salary at the time) after paying for #childcare. The added stress and loss of time with my new daughter was not worth it for me.

My BIL shared the first image on our family group chat yesterday. It was funny until I shared the next image with the statement, “Yeah I don’t think they care.”

It’s a day to celebrate mothers, but motherhood is increasingly difficult in America. The Biden admin has fought for paid leave, affordable childcare…, but Republicans have thwarted their efforts: For families without paid leave, babies “are going to day care when they are two weeks old.”

“They do not even have immunizations. They’re not on regular feeding patterns. Moms are giving up breastfeeding far sooner than they would like to.” -S Min Kim #Childcare #PaidLeave apnews.com/article/paid-family

NEW analysis looks at the relationships between state-provided paid-leave availability and enrollment in public health and nutrition programs (SNAP, Medicaid, WIC) among single low-income women following a birth in the U.S. and finds that SNAP participation is lower in states with paid leave.

The US won't provide a , demands working weeks exceed 40 hours, and won't offer , , , or , yet the right here somehow expects women to crank out babies like it's 1951. Tell them to fuck off.
