White exceptionalism

White tigers are the result of a natural lack of pigmentation in tigers. It happens with about 1 out of 10 000 kittens.

Even if the tigers born with this are larger by birth and grow bigger faster than their yellow siblings, the lack of camouflage mean they get killed early and are extremely rare in the wild.

This one, on the other hand, looks he seriously considering reducing the amount of whitening in his shampoo.

Royale flare
For centuries, white tigers have been associated with royalty and extreme opulence.

The several hundred white tigers alive are almost all in captivity, often selective bred there. They are still sought after for exhibition, entertainment and trophies with a royal flare.

Acceptable captivity
The tigers kept in captivity in the now closed Dusit Zoo were considered well treated, according to animal welfare NGOs.
The tiger enclosures were each comprised of an outside spacious area and a hidden den or night room at the back end of the enclosure.

The animals had a pond or a moat for bathing all filled plentifully. It was plentiful of grass and natural vegetation. Facilities had caves and some platformed areas to climb.

Health conditions of the animals were observed as good. No overcrowding, good body conditions and nonvisible injuries. The cats performed in natural positive behaviours such as scent marking, sniffing, patrolling territory, sleeping and eating were all observed. Tigers appeared relaxed and at ease with surroundings, as it was stated in the report, based on three inspections over five years until Dusit Zoo was closed.

A blonde pose for a white lion

White lions are rare and highly appreciated, often considered divine and royal.

And sometimes you caught them strike a pose like a blonde diva.

These White Lion (Panthera Leo) are not albinos, they are a rare mutation of colour in lions. And it only occurs in one area of the world: In the Kruger-to-canyons Biosphere in Southern Africa. The otherwise tawny prides there carry the gene, and even if the cubs are caught or killed, there will still be white lions being born.

Careless care
Unfortunately, lions in South Africa are no longer considered threatened, meaning the trade in everything lion-related has increased. From trophy hunting to bone-trading for "medicinal" purposes.

This includes trading with white lions, even though they are rare. For a time, they went extinct in the wild but were reintroduced in the hunter free Kruger National Park in 2014.

In Thailand after the closure of Bangkok Dusit Zoo, there are white lions spread out to seven other zoos as late as 2018.

Passable conditions for big cats in this zoo

Am Sonntagnachmittag ergab sich mir kurzfristig die Möglichkeit, in den Zoo zu fahren, um Tiere zu fotografieren. Dies kostete mich nichts, da ich im Besitz eines GAs und eines Zoo-Jahresabos bin.

Wenn man – wie ich am Sonntag – nur 90 Minuten Zeit hat, muss man halt wissen, dass man nicht wirklich alles anschauen kann. Kommt dazu, dass das Fotografieren um die ganzen Familien rum, die da zu Besuch waren, etwas schwierig war. Trotzdem: Ich habe die neue Raubkatzen-Anlage „Panthera“ mit den Löwen, Tigern und Schneeleoparden sowie die Koalas gesehen. Von letzteren nahm der eine grad Reissaus in höhere Gefilde, als ich kam, und der andere war zusammengerollt wie ein Ball.

One of the country’s biggest private debt-collection firms was warned by regulators to “immediately cease” operating in Victoria just weeks before it struck deals to buy debt from major energy and telco companies, a Guardian Australia investigation has found.

Panthera Finance Pty Ltd, the nation’s biggest privately owned debt collector, is blacklisted from operating in Victoria due to a 2020 federal court ruling that it had unduly harassed three consumers for money they did not owe.

But Guardian Australia can reveal the blacklisted entity, Panthera Finance, has continued to make major purchases of debt despite the ban.

In some cases, it did so weeks after receiving a direct warning from the state’s regulator.

Panthera Finance has justified its business dealings by arguing that the entity it is using to collect the new debts, Panthera Finance (Vic) Pty Ltd, is a separate company not subject to the blacklisting.

Curiously, that entity shares a near-identical name with the blacklisted company, is owned by the same parent company, has the same principal place of business, staff numbers and directors, and uses a carbon copy website that appears to have been created as recently as last year. The entity only began using the name Panthera Finance (Vic) Pty Ltd in June 2022, about the same time as Panthera’s dealings with the regulator. It was called CDDS Pty Ltd for about 15 years before that.

The arrangement has raised serious concerns, including from Financial Counselling Victoria, about a “significant gap” in consumer law.

Panthera Finance (Vic) has itself been criticised for how it collects debts in Victoria, including from a 10-year-old boy with autism for money he did not owe.

The regulator’s warning
In June 2022 Consumer Affairs Victoria wrote to Panthera Finance warning it to “immediately cease” any activity that would breach the Australian Consumer Law and Fair Trading Act (ACLFTA).

But do not believe that a law is the solution for AI. If a law was a solution than there would be no murders in the US since, in some states, the penalty for murder is the death sentence. And as we all know, there are still a lot of murderers in the US. So is there a solution? I guess not. We all must become/remain skeptic on the internet and around. If it is too good, beautiful or bad to believe, it might not be true.
