Black and white photo of an old mansion in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia.

Phew! It’s pictures! Family portraits for the holidays. ❤️❤️ (Paper neg in the wash) #BelieveInFilm #LargeFormat #PaperNegatives

An inverted cell phone photo of a paper negative in the wash. The negative looks like a positive but the sink and background all look weird because they are inverted.

Back on my nonsense. Making everyone sit for old-timey portraits to celebrate being together for thanksgiving! #BelieveInFilm #LargeFormat #PaperNegatives #Tintypes

Two large format cameras, a 5x7 and an 8x10, setup on tripods on a walkway ready to shoot.

I had such a ball shooting large format portraits at the #PhillyTweedRide. Cool nerds dressed up to ride vintage bikes and super psyched to have their photo taken with antique cameras.

Buttercup Cottage Barn, Wissahickon Valley Park, Philadelphia 2024

Bichrome on paper negatives (Arista RC and Ilfospeed Digital RC with a red filter in the holder) with restored Seneca 6 5x7

A “color” photo made by combining two black and white paper negatives. One on unfiltered orthochromatic Arista RC paper, recording the green and blue channel, one on panchromatic Ilfospeed Digital RC with a red filter, recording the red channel. The combined image creates a quasi color image with only two color channels. The image shows the corner of the ruins of the barn at Butter Cup cottage near the Wissahickon creek in northwest Philadelphia.

Abstraction and memory.

Scraps of cyanotype coated tissue paper - forgotten parts of other works - laid out in up to 6 layers as 'negatives'.

Sun reveals the constructed image. It reminds me of [ ].

And you?

It's a strange creative process.

Like searching for the memory of something you had forgotten that you remembered.

My dad, 2023.

Digital inversions of paper negatives, Seneca Improved View 8x10 and the Astragon 210 4.5.

First two test shots with the 210 4.5. I was also using very expired Kodak paper that I recently found in storage that I think I bought in the late 90s. It is pretty fogged so these are not the best negatives, but the results seem promising nevertheless.

A very contrasty paper negative portrait of my dad sitting on his front steps. Looking very serious as he usually does.Another closeup portrait of my dad, this time even closer. This is a smaller aperture shot, so more is in focus, but it’s also even muddier because I underexposed it by at least a stop and had to try to bring it out when inverting it in light room.

The barn at the former Buttercup Cottage, Philadelphia 2022.

Taken with the Seneca Improved View 8x10, on paper negatives, with Arista Semi-matte VC paper (rated at ISO 6), several second exposures (using my hand) at f36 and f22 respectively, developed in dilute Arista liquid paper developer, quick scan/invert (still wet!) with phone.

The ruined barn in black and white, generally dark, with graffiti on the wall facing the camera, and steps going up to a non-existent second level.Detail shot of one of the windows/Metal access hatches from the inside of the barn. The wall is covered in graffiti and the masonry is all crumbling.
