It’s my last day with Parks Canada as I am officially retired tomorrow. I’d like to say that my retirement will make space for an Inuk to take my place but my position dies with my departure and once again Arctic Bay has no permanent Parks Canada presence. #ParksCanada

Kootenay: The Park Built for a Highway

Kootenay National Park has a unique origin. It was created in 1920 when BC gave land to the federal government in exchange for building the Banff-Windermere Highway. This 'highway for land' deal resulted in a park that protects a significant corridor of the Rockies, including the famous hot springs and Marble Canyon. #Canada #Kootenay #CanadianHistory #ParksCanada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Working on improving my processing. And learning the ins and outs of . Still lots to learn on both fronts!

This shot from Sandy Pond 23rd August at - a

Skies were pretty dark but some is visible over the distant hill, from a small town outside the park.

A night landscape scene. There is a pond to the lower left of image and a wooden walkway running along the shoreline to the right. The are some trees rising up and to the right. And the distant pond shoreline meets a treed landscape. Above the landscape is a night sky full of stars and the Milky Way rising upwards. The Milky Way is particularly bright and orange colour near the horizon.

Cape Breton: Where Mountains Meet Sea

The Cabot Trail winds through Cape Breton Highlands, but its magic is where mountain meets sea. The park is a rare blend of ecosystems where Acadian, Boreal, and Taiga forests coexist on steep cliffs plunging into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. This dramatic landscape creates a unique habitat for moose, bald eagles, and the elusive Canada lynx. #Canada #CapeBreton #NovaScotia #ParksCanada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

They do this super fun activity in my town where they gather up as many #canoe and #kayak paddlers as possible into the world's tallest #liftlock. Its a very simple concept, but also a lot of fun to watch; hundreds of people packed like sardines into a #water elevator for boats having a little party together.

I hate posting things that identify exactly where I live but in the era of Rainbolt I suppose that ship has sailed.

A whole lot of mostly kayaks in a bunch of different colours as seen from above, packed into the lift lock, a giant basin made of steel.

Midnight at the oasis. Well 11:30 pm at Sinaasiurvik. #nunavut #Arctic #ParksCanada

A shoreline of the Arctic Ocean. A open area of dead calm water, framed by sea ice, reflects orange from the sun lit sky. The sun is low and partially obscured by clouds. On either side of the sun are faint sun dogs. And joining them in an arc is an arc of light

We finished the cabin at Sinaasiurvik, Sirmilik National Park in half the time. And flew out a week early. Myself and one of the bear monitors were the last to leave. Just after the second last flight left the weather went down, low ceiling, wind, rain and fog. We thought we would be stuck there for a while. But it cleared enough for it to come and get us. #Nunavut #Arctic #ParksCanada.
