The US Patent Trade Office is considering rules to make it harder to challenge bad patents. Public comment period has been extended to Dec 2nd.
In 2011, Congress gave us 'inter partes review' (IPR) allowing anyone to challenge a patent as being improperly granted. It gives a bit more of a level playing field against patent trolls and billion dollar corporations.
Remember Amazon patenting '1-click' checkout? Or the plethora of '[existing patent] on the internet' patents that were granted in the heady early days of the Internet Revolution.
The USPTO is severely understaffed, underfunded and frankly outgunned by billion dollar corporation. This proposed change will make it worse.
