Based on some heavy foreshadowing in Chapter 31 of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 6_, we may soon be meeting the Thriae who dwell on Castrovel. As a species, Thriae are an intriguing if unusual concept: half-female, half-bee humanoids, and more unusually monomorphs wholly dependent on other species for their reproduction.

Ignoring the biological challenges of grafting bee-like features onto a humanoid form, the Thriae concept raises some interesting questions as to why a species would evolve in this manner. As monomorphs, would it make sense for them to develop in a manner that their target-vector breeding species (lashunta? elves?) find attractive? Is their legendary, hypnotic beauty an evolutionary necessity, in effect a sexual display, rather like what an Alraune uses to lure prey in?

Deific Anthropomorphization - or Lashunta-morphization is an interesting thing. Lashunta gods are largely deist or spiritual forces in essence. Burning-Mother, Father-Night, Green-Mother, Father-Hunter, the World-Soul, and a whole pantheon of animal-totems, angels, graces, and muses.

The Lashunta have no qualms about representing their deities as looking like themselves, though occasionally with added features that would fit right in among the ancient Indians or Greeks.

Here is a good look for what could be a stronghold in Castrovel's Shattersea region. The ongoing war with the Formians has demanded constant construction of forts and watchtowers all along the coastline, focused on the southeastern region of Asana called Valmaeana - 'New Valmaea', after the lost Lashunta city that once ruled the Colonies' shores. Valmaeana, standing at the closest proximity to the Colonies, and populated by descendants of Lost Valmaea, stands at the forefront of the Western Asana Alliance against the Formians, and even dreams of reconquering the Colonies, and exterminating the Formians in the process.

Lashunta Word of the Week
Mauzuroeo (/mɔːzu.rɔ.e:o./l neuter): honor-feather; individual military merit award

This is a military honor granted for individual bravery or prowess in battle, as opposed to a ~tamauzuroeo~ - honor-fan, which is a meritorious combat award for a military unit. The distinction’s origins lie in legends from the ancient Age of the Warrior-Queens, when a queen would show favor to a warrior by plucking a golden feather from her crown and giving it as a token. Lashunta queen crowns were traditionally made out of gold and jewels to resemble a headdress of phoenix-fowl feathers (lashunta historians speculate that during the prehistoric Age of Legends, tribal queens wore crown headdresses of actual feathers). The recipient may receive a cast golden feather, which they may wear as a badge.
This word occurred in last week’s Chapter 30, in which Lady Vaeol recommended to Master-Captain Dosuaesh that her flagmates Kaure, Erymi, and Oshis should receive honor-feathers for their deeds at the Battle of Saeoel’s Mound, in which they led the right-flank charge that broke the banethings and led to their defeat.
Another related word is ~Mauzuano~ - five feathers. This is the highest military award given by the city of Qabarat, typically for an outstanding act of heroism involving saving the army or the city…and more often than not requiring the sacrifice of one’s life. The word’s origin implies a system of graded awards, based on the number of feathers included.

Castrovel, where the mushrooms grow like trees, and the trees grow like skyscrapers. In such a vital, abundant environment what wonders evolve, grow, and live, and what terrors?

I've previously talked about the Zellavya - the Darkfloor biome under the megadandra-trees' boughs, where sunlight never shines. I like the thought of some kind of bioluminescence breaking the darkness. Maybe these giant mushrooms use it to attract pollinators? Or maybe to attract prey?

Caring for a newborn has absolutely cratered my writing time (to the disappointment of the two story commissioners waiting on me) but i have had sufficient time and brain power to get lost in #tacticsOgre Reborn.

Tactics Ogre: the Knight of Lodis on Game Boy Advance was an absolutely foundational #Gaming experience for me. Elementary school NaCl got lost in that tale of sword and sorcery political intrigue and betrayal and the gameplay loop ofpicking, growing, customizing units to make 5-8 unit squads and move them around a grid.

Compared to Nintendo contemporaries like Golden Sun or Pokémon or Dragon Quest, Tactics RPGs felt deeper or more puzzle like.

25 years later Tactics style #RPGs are still my favorite turn based RPG format. I like how dynamic and flexible they are. Expressing my playstyle via class choices and squad composition feels good

Tactics Ogre Reborn is a remake of a different game in the series and has true, meaningful branching story paths. I am struck by how much i care about who lives and who dies both in battles and in cutscenes, and seeing who i can potentially recruit to my cause.

It's the right level of fantasy for me, where wizards are part of a team composition with archers and knights, rather than grey-eyed hermits capable of twisting kingdoms in knots and shaping reality to their whims. I can tie that scaling directly to my interest in #TTRPGs like #Pathfinder and #dungeonsAndDragons which operate on similar scales and have to at least attempt parity between martial characters and spellcasters.

I bounced off the game a year ago but I'm HOOKED this go around. Enough to have brought the Steam Deck out of the closet and actually use it.

Who knew i wasn't too old to care about an #RPG story?
