_The Evening Post_, 5 August 1924:
AT WALLACE STREET
It had been intended to have transferred the steam shovel from the Wallace street tramway extension excavation to an excavation work in Thorndon quay some days ago, but the navvy is still at it at Wallace street, a minor modification of the plans there giving it a few more days’ work. The scheme as approved had provided for a high level footpath over a portion of the eastern side of the cutting, but to meet the wishes of the residents concerned the council has agreed lo cut down deeper on this length and so provide a low level pathway. Not only is this arrangement satisfactory to the property owners but it also makes for a rather better approach from John street.

_The Evening Post_, 4 August 1924:
PAVEMENT ARTISTS
Complaints were made to-day of the #chalking of #footpaths in various parts of the city, apparently on Saturday evening, with crude advert[i]sements of a meeting to be held on Sunday evening, and inquiries were made by a “Post” reporter as to the City Council’s interest and attitude in the matter. He was told that the council was quite interested, but that the difficulty was to discover who was responsible for the chalking. It was frequently done, but it was against the bylaws, and was accordingly punishable by fine. Likewise, the pasting of bills on other than recognised #billboards was against city rules and regulations, drawn up with the idea of keeping the town as tidy as might be.

_The Evening Post_, 11 May 1923:
         KELBURN ROADS
           TO THE EDITOR

Sir,—A few months ago Upland road, #Kelburn, was quite a good road, but like the majority of our urban #roads, it has been neglected, and is now fast developing into a series of pot holes. To put it in order now would be quite a simple matter, but if repairs are delayed for any further length of time it will be an expensive affair for the ratepayers. Between Glasgow street and the Viaduct it is getting so bad now that pedestrians are forced to take to the footpath [BrE pavement, AmE sidewalk], which may be a good thing as far as drivers of vehicles are concerned, but quite a painful performance for most pedestrians. A decent footpath is long overdue.—l am, etc.,
                                     WATCHMAN.
