What gets me about Penn and Teller every time is their commitment to fans.
Posters were being sold at the merch stand and every single one was signed.
The show programmes for sale? Every single one was signed!
Previously at the end of their shows they would wait outside the theatre before the audience even had time to stand from their seats and they would greet every single damn person who waited there to meet them.
That's hundreds of people every night.
They stopped doing that post-covid but there was a small gathering by the stage door last night of maybe 50 people.
Again, every single person got to say hello, have something signed and take endless photos.
They're both in their 70s and both so fucking cool. Deep, deep respect.
And I haven't even started on the tricks yet!
I saw Penn & Teller on stage tonight.
And then I MET them. I have photographic evidence as well.
They are the sweetest and most caring performers you'll ever meet. I feel honoured to have met them. Plus their show was brilliant.
I won't sleep now.

Great meeting #PennJillette yesterday at his "Felony Juggler" book signing at Book Passage in Corte Madera. Delighted he recognized me from (virtually) attending his Penn's Sunday School podcast recordings (https://pennsundayschool.com).
(I'd also met #PennAndTeller briefly after they performed in Chicago 35 years ago, but didn't expect him to remember that 😉 )

Trying to sell my treasured copy of the rare Derren’s Brown book, Absolute Magic. I had it signed by Derren, in person, because I knew he wouldn’t like me having that older book. I then took it to Penn and Teller and got them to sign it, because I thought it would be funny.
Derren’s didn’t like me having the book, andPenn and Teller did not think it was funny, but they signed it like good sports, all the same.
Pleas boost to see if there are any fellow travellers out there in need of rare knowledge.

"I completely have not used the word Libertarian in describing myself since I got an email during lockdown where a person from a Libertarian organization wrote to me and said, “We’re doing an anti-mask demonstration in Vegas, and obviously we’d like you to head it.” I looked at that email and I went, “The fact they sent me this email is something I need to be very ashamed of, and I need to change.” Now, you can make the argument that maybe you don’t need to mandate masks — you can make the argument that maybe that shouldn’t be the government's job — but you cannot make the argument that you shouldn’t wear masks. It is the exact reciprocal of seatbelts because if I don’t wear a seatbelt, my chances of fucking myself up increase — if I don’t wear a mask, the chance of fucking someone else up increase.

When I looked up to check on the hotel clerks whereabouts, I saw on another side of the three sided desk, Teller of Penn and Teller watching me with great surprise.
I think he already knew how the thumb removal trick was done though.
But he knows I did not see him approach the desk, and the fact that a grown ass man was even entertaining himself in such a fashion, coincident with his profession, apparently left him a bit gobsmacked.
The feeling was mutual.

Penn and Teller had a magic trick anyone could do, pull on others, by using a dedicated website they published in one of their books.
However I never got the website to work, 4O4 or something, and I wonder if the actual trick was on me?
Does anyone else remember this website? The book was Penn and Teller’s Cruel Tricks for Dear Friends, I think.
