@bookstodon Yesterday I read Winter's Gifts, and today The Masquerades of Spring by Ben Aaronovitch, novellas in the Rivers of London series, though both are set in the US. Very different books, but both enjoyable, though I liked Masquerades best.
I also got Stone & Sky, a full length novel, but I'll probably squeeze something else in first, so I don't overdose on Aaronovitch.
These are always fun reads (or listens, as the case may be).

Reading some Ben Aaronovitch (#PeterGrant #RiversofLondon) lately, I can't but think about press reports on the causes of the UK riots: What if they were part of Aaronovitch's fiction?

The hidden, true causes would be magic phenomena, disguised as uncoordinated humans acting "like a school of fish". That would be relieving, easier to stomach than the threatening power of Nazis. The Folly would magically save us.

But that's not happening.

Am Anfang dachte ich, die Geschichte spielt in der Vergangenheit. Bis Peter Grant sein Mobile Phone zückte. Da wurde mir klar: es spielt in der Gegenwart. Und dann begegnet er auch schon seinem ersten Geist. Was sagt man in diesem Fall? So, als Polizist? Natürlich: „Können Sie beweisen, dass Sie tot sind?“.
