Zoning fight grows over Project Tango data center plan

Palm Beach County is weighing a zoning amendment that would enable a large-scale AI data center on a 202.67-acre site, as community opposition intensifies over potential infrastructure, environmental, and cost impacts.

The proposal, known as Project Tango under application DOA/ZV-2025-01602, seeks to amend the master plan for the Central Park Commerce Center north of Southern Boulevard, roughly 3.7 miles west of Seminole Pratt Whitney Road, to support a significantly larger industrial buildout.

Residents near the Arden community and an elementary school have mobilized against the project, citing proximity risks tied to noise, emissions, and long-term public health exposure, particularly for children within roughly 1,200 feet of the planned facilities.

Opponents have organized through a Change.org petition that has exceeded 1,100 signatures, describing the facility as a multi-building AI data center campus spanning more than 200 acres with structures up to seven stories and nearly 4 million square feet of industrial space.

The application seeks to raise the site’s permitted development intensity from 2.02 million square feet to as much as 3.69 million square feet, aligning with a 2025 county ordinance that expanded allowable industrial capacity across designated economic development zones.

Key strategic risks center on grid load, water demand, and wastewater capacity, as hyperscale data centers are energy- and water-intensive and can materially affect utility pricing, peak load management, and infrastructure capex at the municipal level.

Environmental and land-use concerns include potential disruption of agricultural activity, wildlife corridors, and local aquifers, which could elevate regulatory scrutiny and lengthen entitlement timelines.

For the county, the decision carries economic development tradeoffs, balancing data infrastructure investment against land-use compatibility, infrastructure strain, and escalating political risk from coordinated neighborhood opposition.

If approved, the project would materially shift the industrial density profile of the Western Communities sector and set a precedent for future high-intensity compute infrastructure siting in semi-rural zones.

The unexpected energy trend moving faster than policy

Filipino households and communities are accelerating solar adoption to reduce electricity costs and manage worsening power disruptions, signaling structural demand for distributed energy solutions across both off-grid and grid-connected areas.

In Tanay, Rizal, solar installations at Laiban Elementary School have replaced unreliable diesel generation, enabling continuous classroom operations, powering instructional equipment, and supporting refrigeration for local microbusinesses, while also sustaining operations during election periods without generator dependency.

The deployment reduced operational risk tied to grid instability and weather-related outages, demonstrating the strategic value of decentralized power in disaster-prone, remote areas.

In Navotas, urban households in Barangay Tanza 2 are adopting rooftop solar to offset rising grid tariffs, shifting daytime appliance use to self-generated power and lowering exposure to volatile electricity pricing.

Community use of solar lighting during disasters and pandemic disruptions highlighted operational continuity benefits, particularly for emergency response and remote education.

Energy sector experts continue to warn that fossil fuel dependence exposes Filipino consumers to fuel price shocks and infrastructure fragility, increasing the financial and operational case for residential and community-scale solar.

The expansion of household solar reflects a broader decentralization trend in the Philippine power market, with implications for grid load management, utility revenue models, and future regulatory frameworks governing net metering and distributed generation.

Let’s Go Renewable PH is positioning solar not as a lifestyle choice but as household-level infrastructure that delivers direct cost control and disaster resilience, aligning with national energy security and climate risk mitigation objectives.

What Mober’s big recognition actually signals for the logistics industry

Manila-based electric vehicle logistics firm Mober secured recognition at the Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability Awards 2025 for its workplace and human capital strategy, reinforcing its position as a leading player in the Philippines’ electric commercial logistics market.

The company was named under the Inspiring Workplaces in Asia category and was honored during the ACES Awards gala in Bali on Nov. 27, 2025, marking a reputational milestone as it accelerates fleet electrification and regional expansion.

The recognition follows a series of operational moves in 2025, including the launch of the country’s largest commercial EV charging hub, deployment of the Philippines’ first fully electric tractor head, and market entry into Thailand, signaling a shift toward scale-driven consolidation in Southeast Asia’s green logistics sector.

The award highlights Mober’s workforce-centric operating model as a strategic asset, particularly its focus on driver specialization and internal capability-building to support rapid electrification and service reliability as competition intensifies.

Mober currently employs more than 400 staff, including over 200 specialized EV drivers, positioning labor structure as a key lever for maintaining uptime, safety, and asset utilization in capital-intensive electric fleets.

Its Green Warriors Program functions as an internal training and standards framework, designed to reduce operational risk, improve safety performance, and ensure consistency as cross-border operations expand.

The firm’s MoveHer initiative targets higher female participation in logistics roles, addressing labor supply constraints in a traditionally male-dominated sector while aligning with growing ESG scrutiny from corporate clients and institutional partners.

From a strategic perspective, the ACES recognition strengthens Mober’s credibility with enterprise customers and potential investors as the regional EV logistics market moves toward tighter margins, higher infrastructure spend, and increased regulatory attention on emissions and workplace standards.

The company’s expansion into Thailand positions it against both local incumbents and regional players racing to secure first-mover advantages in electric-first commercial delivery networks, heightening competitive and execution risk as capital requirements rise.

Mober’s trajectory reflects broader market dynamics in Southeast Asia, where electrification of last-mile and heavy commercial logistics is shifting from pilot phase to infrastructure-heavy scaling, making workforce quality, asset discipline, and regional execution key differentiators.

TIEZA Reinforces the Legacy of Club Intramuros Golf Course as a Premier Sports Tourism and Heritage Landmark

The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) proudly underscores its commitment to cultural preservation, sports tourism, and sustainable tourism development through its continued stewardship of the Club Intramuros Golf Course (CIGC)—one of the Philippines’ most historically significant recreational sites and a distinctive gem in the country’s golf tourism landscape.

Strategically located within the storied walls of Intramuros, the Club Intramuros Golf Course offers a rare combination of athletic pursuit and heritage immersion. Established in 1906 during the early American colonial period, the course is not simply a leisure amenity but a living mark of Manila’s layered history.

Its manicured greens and fairways sit against the backdrop of Spanish-era fortifications, old watchtowers, and historic artillery—making it one of the few golf courses in the world built entirely within a preserved heritage district.

More than a destination for golf enthusiasts, the Club Intramuros Golf Course plays a vital role in sustaining cultural identity and community vibrance.

It serves as a green lung within the capital’s historic center, a venue for sports tourism activities, and an iconic tourist spot that connects modern recreation with the Philippines’ colonial heritage.

A testament to TIEZA’s mandate to protect, preserve, and promote tourism assets

As one of TIEZA’s managed properties, the Club Intramuros Golf Course exemplifies two of the agency’s four core mandates: (1) to develop and maintain quality tourism infrastructure, and (2) to preserve cultural and historical assets for future generations.

TIEZA’s dedication to the preservation of CIGC ensures that its historic significance is honored while continuing to meet standards for sports tourism facilities.

Current efforts include heritage-sensitive landscaping, structural conservation, facility upgrades, drainage and irrigation improvements, and sustainability-focused maintenance work—each guided by the agency’s responsibility to balance preservation with modern tourism needs.

“TIEZA is committed to protecting tourism assets that reflect our cultural roots and elevate the Philippines as a global destination,” said TIEZA COO Mark T. Lapid.

“The Club Intramuros Golf Course is a symbolic reminder of our past and a vibrant platform for sports tourism. Its continued preservation is made possible through the support of every Filipino traveler.”

Building tourism together: how travel tax contributions sustain CIGC

TIEZA emphasizes the collective power of Filipino travelers in shaping the country’s tourism landscape. A portion of travel tax collections directly supports the operations, upkeep, and preservation of tourism assets under TIEZA’s portfolio—including the Club Intramuros Golf Course—ensuring the continued protection of its historical structures and the improvement of its tourism facilities.

This includes maintenance of the course’s fairways, greens, and heritage-sensitive landscaping, and upgrading of facilities such as lighting, safety features, and visitor amenities for year-round playability.

Every contribution made by travelers helps TIEZA sustain the CIGC as a safe, enjoyable, and historically significant site—allowing both local and foreign visitors to appreciate the unique experience of golfing within the centuries-old Walled City.

Strengthening golf tourism in the Philippines

As golf tourism continues to grow globally, the Club Intramuros Golf Course stands as one of the Philippines’ most strategic assets. Its central location, night golf offerings, rich heritage value, and picturesque setting make it a key attraction for international golfers and tour operators seeking distinctive, memorable experiences.

CIGC complements the country’s broader network of world-class golf courses, further positioning the Philippines as an emerging golf tourism hub in Asia.

As part of TIEZA’s long-term tourism development roadmap, enhancements to the course are expected to support increased visitor arrivals, economic activity for Intramuros and nearby communities, and wider recognition of Manila as a historic yet dynamic destination.

A living heritage, sustained by collective support

With its blend of history, heritage, and sport, the Club Intramuros Golf Course represents a triumph of cultural preservation and tourism development. Its continued protection is a shared responsibility—made possible through TIEZA’s stewardship, the support of the Department of Tourism, the involvement of the Intramuros Administration, and the contributions of Filipino travelers through the travel tax.

Recently, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized his vision for the revitalization and sustainability of Manila City landmarks and centers. TIEZA supports this direction and recently launched the “Sundays at Club Intramuros” initiative to give the community an opportunity to enjoy non-golf activities such as walking, jogging, light exercises, and small group picnics within the historic Intramuros walls.

As TIEZA advances its mission of Building Tourism Together, CIGC remains a powerful reminder that preserving the country’s past plays an essential role in shaping a stronger, more vibrant tourism future.

Maxim Rides & Food Delivery Provides Relief to Typhoon Tino Victims in Cebu

Maxim Rides & Food Delivery organized a series of relief operations to support residents affected by Typhoon Tino. The initiative aimed to provide immediate aid to severely impacted communities through the distribution of rice and bottled water.

On November 14, Maxim distributed relief goods to 270 constituents in Barangay Cogon Pardo, Cebu City, with support from Councilor Eran and local barangay officials. The team provided rice and bottled water to help residents recover from the storm’s aftermath.

Maxim also extended assistance to upland communities, distributing rice and water to 130 beneficiaries in Lusaran, Cebu City, with the help of Councilor Harold Kendrick Go.

The activity was held at Lusaran Elementary School. Before proceeding to Lusaran, the team stopped by Barangay Sirao, where they assisted an additional 20 beneficiaries.

On November 15, Maxim reached 170 beneficiaries in Talisay City, continuing its distribution of rice and water. This leg of the relief effort was an initiative led solely by the Maxim Management team.

“Maxim remains committed to supporting communities in times of crisis. We extend our solidarity to all affected families and will continue to provide assistance whenever needed,” said Christopher Poliran, Head of Maxim Cebu.

Maxim Rides & Food Delivery will continue coordinating with local government units and community leaders as Cebu works toward recovery in the coming weeks.

The company also recently extended similar relief support to communities affected by Typhoon Tino in Negros Occidental.
