In the Maule mountain range, Chile. While exploring the landscape with my husband @daniel@mstdn.degu.cl, we watched the sand slowly shift… until this incredible insect appeared, known locally as the chinchimollo. A discreet yet fascinating inhabitant of the Chilean Andean ecosystems. #NaturePhotography #ExploringChile #LifeInTheMountains #Chinchimollo #ChileanWildlife #MauleMountains #ChileanBiodiversity #ChileanInsects #Wildlife #ChileanNature #AndeanEcosystems #MountainFauna #NativeInsects #PhotoMoments #PhotoMemories
The image shows an insect known as a chinchimollo, on light gray sandy soil. The insect has a thick, elongated body, about five to seven centimeters long. Its grayish-brown color allows it to blend into its surroundings.
It has six robust legs, a large head with long, thin antennae, and a segmented abdomen that ends in a rounded point. Its surface appears slightly dusty, as if covered in sand.
The light in the photo is soft, giving it a tranquil and natural feel, like an unexpected find amidst the Andean landscape of Maule.
I found these photos I took a while ago in Hualañé, Maule Region, Chile. In autumn in Chile, these fluffy and beautiful moths appear. They even look like they're wearing sweaters!

A photograph immortalizes life's moments. This was in the context of the social protests in Chile in 2019.

A daytime urban scene showing an armored water cannon (guanaco) covered in graffiti on the left side, firing a powerful, misty white jet of water toward the right. In the foreground, with their backs to the viewer, two men observe the scene; one of them is wearing white gloves and has what appears to be a gas mask hanging around his neck. The street floor is covered in debris and rocks. In the background, urban buildings with more graffiti and some blurred silhouettes of people can be seen amidst the mist.

The wonderful Huemul.
The Huemul, along with the condor, has been part of our national emblem since 1834. It was chosen to represent the nobility of Chilean nature. It is a critically endangered species and is protected by Chilean and international law.
On International Huemul Day, I remember that exciting moment with this photo you allowed me to take.

In the photo, there is a male Huemul. It is the southernmost deer on the planet. Its fur is thick, dense, and beige or dark brown, with forked antlers that can reach up to 30 cm in length.
It stands on some lichen-covered rocks on a high peak, with scattered Patagonian trees in the background.
A photo of a tenca, a bird endemic to Chile. Its song is one of the most fascinating among Chilean birds, as it tends to imitate other birds, giving it a wide vocal repertoire. In the photo, the yellow color of its head is due to pollen, as it likes nectar and introduces its head into in puya flowers (a plant endemic to Chile). The tenca is one of the most common and beautiful birds in Chile. And it was my father's favorite bird.

Photo of a tenca, a passerine bird endemic to Chile. It has predominantly grayish-brown plumage, with a lighter belly. Its tail is long and dark brown, with white outer tips. Its head has a conspicuous white superciliary line (brow) and is stained with yellow pollen. Its bill and legs are black. It is approximately 28 cm long and stands perched on the tip of a tall, withered plant, looking up.
Amazing nature.
The slender lizard (Liolaemus tenuis) is one of the most common reptiles in Chile. However, it only displays this distinctive coloration in Río Clarillo National Park; the reason for this characteristic is unknown, as it is present only in the slender lizard population of this Chilean national park.
