Time for a rewatch. #Criterion #physicalmedia #uhdbd https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=393574
Hell. Yes!
Criterion just announced they'll be releasing Killers of the Flower Moon in March of 2026. Previously, it wasn't available on disc within the US.

Little technical issue tonight.
So I wanted to start watching that Popstar movie. I have a Blu-ray player, a projector and a home stereo setup. It's complicated and a little hard to get to.
So I slipped it in, and the DVD got to the menu, but I couldn't get the remote to do anything. Opened up the battery compartment, and one of the batteries had fizzed out. So I removed both, cleaned everything to some extent, put in new batteries, and nothing.
OK.
I have another Blu-ray player, a multi-region LG one I got from 220 Electronics a year ago but haven't had the occasion to use. Thought I'd try bustin' that out. So I got everything connected but I couldn't get the remote to work.
Same problem as the old remote.
So I've ordered a replacement remote from eBay for the new player. Meanwhile I will try to do a deeper clean of both remotes' contacts, with baking soda and a toothbrush this time.
But not tonight.
Plastics "Diamond Head" UK Island 1981 Flexi-disc
The flexi-disc was invented in 1962, though cardboard and other media had used for giveaway records earlier. They were often included in books and magazines, or this case, as a standalone promotion. They were even used to distribute computer programs.
Plastics were a highly influential new wave band in Japan, with fans like Talking Heads and DEVO. The single has re-recordings of songs by Alex Sadkin.
@clf I hear you. And the artwork for records is bigger & better too. I wish vinyl wasn't so expensive.
Mostly I just appreciate having a separate device that plays the music and movies without any other enshittification going on. It's a tangible sense of relief that the music isn't going to be interrupted by some call or notification.
If the artist and music is really special to me, I buy the CD.
I let my teenagers put the CD or DVD on and they get a kick out of it.
Forgot I got this from a Christmas sale yesterday. #physicalmedia #bluray
I have three move movies on my watch list tonight. Brace yourselves, that's a record 6 movies in one day, if I can stand to see them all. Edit: Nope.
Fourth up, or first, is Pinocchio (2002), directed by and starring Roberto Benigni. I'm going to watch the subtitled version. Update: Stopped working 53 minutes in. And the other version, the dub into English on the other DVD, didn't work at all.

Fifth, or second, is About Dry Grasses (2023), directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, starring Deniz Celiloğlu, Merve Dizdar and Musab Ekici, it's a Turkish drama, and a Janus Contemporaries film (adjunct to Criterion). Update: It's over 3 hours long, so this one will be my last movie of the night.

Edit: Tomorrow, if I can stand it, is Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016), directed by Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. No time tonight after all.

If I have one tradition for end of year, it's playing all of my music acquired over the year. Here's everything getting ready next couple weeks or so. #vinyl #cd #45rpm #PhysicalMedia
Currently watching Fried Barry (2020), directed by Ryan Kruger, starring Gary Green, Bianka Hartenstein, Sean Cameron Michael, Chanelle de Jager, Joey Cramer, and Jonathan Pienaar. It's an alien possession movie from South Africa.

I have three "better" movies I plan to watch later tonight.
Quite a bit of gaming to be had this holiday, thanks to @IliDraws for the addition of ghosts of yotei to the mix. Very lucky to have her and she indulges in my love of sci-fi and blades

I'm currently watching a 2-sided cheapo DVD with two badly transferred movies on it.
The Death Merchants (1976, otherwise known as The Spy Who Never Was)/ The Deadly Recruits (1986)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070812/
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0340655/
Jason Robards leads an international cast in The Death Merchants, whereas Terence Stamp leads a British cast in a TV movie, part of a series.
I got back into vinyl last year. Here are my longer thoughts on it: https://longtoot.hyvorblogs.io/technics-sl-1500c-review #physicalmedia #music #vinyl
Tonight, three more films. Hopefully I'll bea ble to finish all three.
First, Cold War (2018), directed by Paweł Pawlikowski, starring Joanna Kulig, Tomasz Kot, Borys Szyc, Agata Kulesza, Cédric Kahn, and Jeanne Balibar. This is a Criterion release of a movie set in post-WWII Poland. Looks great in b/w, and the beginning is full of music.

Second, Dear Evan Hansen (2021), directed by Steven Chbotsky, starring Ben Platt, Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Nik Dodani, Colton Ryan, Danny Pino, Julianne Moore, and Amy Adams. I don't know much about this except Platt originated the role in the play of the same name.

Third, The Last Station (2009), directed by Michael Hoffman, a Tolstoy biopic starring Helen Mirren, Christopher Plummer, Paul Giamatti, Anne-Marie Duff, Kerry Condon, and James McAvoy.
Paid 75 bucks for this, guess it was a good deal...
